**THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED**
Ever fancied giving travel writing a try? TravelLocal has teamed up with Bradt Guides and Stanford’s (the world’s most famous map shop) to bring you the ultimate competition for unpublished travel writers. The Bradt Travel Guides New Travel Writer of the Year competition allows budding writers to promote their work to a wider demographic (and there’s an incredible prize thrown in for good measure).
The first prize, provided by TravelLocal, is a week-long safari holiday for two in Uganda. Travelling with the lovely Kombi Tours, it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience. With Bradt Guides due to launch their new Uganda guide, there has never been a better time to explore this incredible country! Furthermore, the top three writers will attend an awards ceremony in the presence of some of the country’s best-known travel writers, publishers and editors. The winner will also be commissioned to write an article about their time in Uganda for the Bradt website and get to attend their next travel writing seminar.
Uganda is a fantastic country which is often overlooked as a destination. Thanks to Bradt Guides and Stanfords, we are putting the spotlight on its diverse and vibrant wildlife. If you weren’t already tempted to enter, we thought we’d check out some of the highlights of this 7 day safari…
An unmissable experience, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda’s prime game viewing spots. In the three days you will spend there, you will explore the Kasenyi Plains. Home to lions, elephants, warthogs and game herds, it’s an ideal start to your Ugandan wildlife experience. Trek through the bush to see iconic tree-climbing lions in their natural habitat and enjoy sunsets over the rolling Savannah plains from the comfort of Marafiki Safari Lodge.
One of the most magical moments of the itinerary is a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the African plains. As the Rwenzori Mountains stretch out before you, you will cruise over the Kazinga Channel and watch herds of elephants buffalo head for the water holes. With landing followed by a bush breakfast, it’s sure to be a morning you never forget.
A UNESCO world heritage site, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to half the world’s remaining population of mountain gorillas. You will trek through dense forest until you find the troop and will spend an hour observing them. Many claim that spending time with these gentle giants is a life-changing experience. Watching them socialise, and observing the bonds between them, is a moving and affirming testament to the importance of local conservation efforts.
Uganda is a vibrant and diverse destination which is simply waiting to be explored. With this competition, its wildlife highlights are more accessible than ever. Head over to the Bradt Guides website to enter and keep an eye on our social media feed for more updates. We can’t wait to see the entries and send the winner on the trip of a lifetime!
