My favourite place in India is royal Rajasthan: the land of the Rajputs showcases many forts and palaces, lively people, and enigmatic cultures.
If you have time between Udaipur and Bhopal, take a private transfer and break the long journey up with a day in Indore, known for its Holkar dynasty palaces.

My husband and I recently completed a fantastic 11-day, five-city tour of India, and we couldn't be more pleased with the experience. Being able to speak with a real person made an important difference and gave us confidence in our choice.

Good to know

India is generally safe in popular tourist areas, though it's a large, diverse country and experiences can differ significantly by region. Solo female travellers in particular should take extra precautions and avoid travelling alone. Always check the government’s latest travel advice before you go.
There is no single best time to visit India, as the climate varies dramatically by region. October through March is generally the most comfortable across the north, including Delhi, Agra, and Rajasthan. The south is enjoyable year-round, though June to September is monsoon season, and brings heavy rainfall across much of the country. The Himalayas are best explored in spring and early autumn.
Yes, British citizens need a valid visa (or OCI card) to enter India. You can apply for an eVisa, though eVisas are only valid at designated airports, seaports, and land border crossings. Travellers must also submit an arrival form online up to 72 hours before travel. Always verify current entry requirements before you travel.
India is set in South Asia, forming the bulk of the Indian subcontinent. It is bordered by Pakistan to the northwest, China and Nepal to the north, Bhutan to the northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. The Arabian Sea lies to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south.
New Delhi is the capital of India and the seat of the national government. It's located within the larger metropolitan area of Delhi, one of the world's most populous cities, and serves as a major international gateway for travellers. Historic landmarks include the Red Fort, Humayun's Tomb, and India Gate, alongside Mughal-era architecture and some of the country's best markets and street food.
India's currency is the Indian rupee (INR). Cash is widely used across the country, particularly outside major cities and tourist areas, so carrying local currency is advisable. Cash machines are available in cities and larger towns, though they can be unreliable in rural areas. Credit and debit cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants, but smaller establishments almost always prefer cash.
Hindi and English are both official languages. However, India is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world, with hundreds of languages spoken across its states. English is widely used in tourist businesses, making it the most practical language for travellers. In the south, languages such as Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada predominate over Hindi.
