October Half Term Getaways

|

In many ways the October half term is a great time to plan a trip – the weather here in much of the world is starting to get chilly, summer is a distant memory, but Christmas is still months away. Trouble is, where outside of Europe can you go in eight or nine days? Here we present a collection of itineraries that you can fit into the half term break, and which make the trouble of flying long haul worthwhile.

October is a fantastic time to do some gentle walking in the Indian Himalayas – mountain views should be good, but it won’t be too cold just yet.

Taj Mahal, Agra, IndiaAlternatively for those new to India, a trip to the Golden Triangle takes you to some classic sites but also includes some time in the countryside.

Uzbekistan has some amazing Silk Road heritage, and October is a great time of year to be there. The principal cities of Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara are under-visited given their immense history and splendour. It’s definitely possible to see all three on about 8 days or so.

China really needs several different trips to truly get to grips with it. You can get an introduction to the country within eight or nine days though – and see Beijing, the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors and Shanghai. October is one of the best times of year to be in China as well.

Georgia is a fantastic destination, and being on the fringes of Europe and Asia is within easy reach for a shorter break. October sees clear skies and pleasant temperatures in this small, enigmatic country.
