Detailed Itinerary

Posta Fibreno - Picinisco
Day 1: Discover the natural beauty of Picinisco
On your first day in the Comino Valley, you'll settle down in Picinisco, an extraordinary natural area surrounded by the Apennine mountain range.
Before reaching this charming town, you'll first make a stop at Lake Posta Fibreno for a scenic walk. You'll have a table reserved for lunch with a view - giving you the chance to savor a delicious aperitif while enjoying the peace and beauty of the lake.
This lake, the beating heart of the Lake Posta Fibreno Nature Reserve, is one of the most pristine natural oases in central Italy. As you walk the natural trails along its shores, you may spot some of about a hundred species of birds that dwell here. The peculiarity of the lake is its floating island, the so-called Rota - a small islet which moves with the wind and water currents. You'll have the afternoon free for activities here before venturing into Picinisco.

Day 2: Savor the flavors of Picinisco
This morning, get in touch with nature as you discover the enchanting and untamed areas of Picinisco by e-bike. Venture down dirt paths and roads to uncover the surrounding natural beauty at your own pace.
In the afternoon you will visit an agriturismo on the grounds of a historic villa - its bucolic atmosphere, surrounding landscape of mountains and rivers, and simply good food will be sure to inspire you. Meet the owner of the farm and visit the cheese laboratory; the PDO pecorino produced here is enjoyed throughout Italy and around the world. Witness the cheese production process before enjoying a tasting of pecorino and other dairy products. Finally, sit down for a tasting dinner of all the local products made in this area, including lamb, vegetables, and olive oil.

Picinisco - San Donato - Picinisco
Day 3: Stroll through history in San Donato
This morning, you'll visit the charming village of San Donato Val Di Comino, set in the verdant nature of Italy's Abruzzo National Park.
Thanks to its beauty and exclusivity, San Donato is listed among the "most beautiful villages in Italy". Its historic center is filled with winding alleys and white-stone stairways that open up to unique landscape views. On a walk through the center, take time to admire the Chiesa di San Donato Vescovo e Martire, built in 1630, and stop at small workshops showcasing ages-old craftsmanship traditions.
In the afternoon you'll reach a famous winery where you can enjoy a tasting of Cabernet DOC, a full-bodied red wine typical of Atina - a great treasure of the Val di Comino.

Picinisco - Alvito - Picinisco
Day 4: Immerse yourself in the charms of Alvito
You'll spend the morning exploring the town of Alvito, which is divided into two parts: the main town within the lower part, and a medieval castle in the upper one. Its beautifully-preserved old town is full of landmark buildings such as the Castrucci, Sipari, Ferrante, and Panicali palaces, as well as the Palazzo Ducale, built in the 16th century and renovated in the 18th century.
Take a tour of Cantelmo Castle, an ancient fortress which dates back to the 15th century. It suffered some damage after several earthquakes hit the region in the 20th century, but you can still admire the shape of the castle today and explore inside the ruins.
End your Alvito exploring with a trip to a renowned pastry shop in the historic center, for a tasting of nougat and local homemade desserts - a wonderful way to end your last full day in the Comino Valley!
