Day 3: Welcome to Rethymno
Today, you'll depart from Chania and travel to Rethymno, about an hour's drive along the coast. Upon your arrival here, be sure to explore one of the city's most iconic draws: the imposing Fortezza of Rethymno, a historic Venetian fortress which dates back to the 16th century.
Wander through the narrow streets of the Old Town, lined with charming shops and cafes, and unwind for a while on the sands of Rethymno Beach, soaking in the chilled-out Mediterranean atmosphere. Taste local delicacies at a coastal restaurant overlooking the sea, before heading to your hotel for an overnight stay.

After a day full of wonder in Rethymno, pack up and make tracks for your next stop: Agios Nikolaos, about a two-hour drive further along the Cretan coast.
After a long journey, simply relax as you gaze out upon the turquoise waters at Voulisma Beach, or watch as the boats bob along the edge of Lake Voulismeni - an ancient body of water, uniquely situated in the city center. Take all the time you need to rest and soak in the tranquil atmosphere, before savoring the dynamic local nightlife scene. Overnight in Agios Nikolaos.

Agios Nikolaos

History awaits in and around Agios Nikolaos today! First up is the unmissable Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos, one of the most significant across the entire island, featuring artifacts from the Neolithic era up until the Roman times.
Next, you'll head about an hour's drive out of the city to explore the Lasithi Plateau, a unique space dotted with traditional villages and brimming with natural beauty. Visit the island of Spinalonga in the Gulf of Elounda to learn the secrets of its historic fortress, then return to Agios Nikolaos for a charming dinner overlooking the harbor, followed by an overnight stay.
