Day 1: Welcome to Sri Lanka!

Arrive at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport and meet your representative for a 30-minute car transfer to Negombo - a charming coastal city known for its historic fishing industry and relaxing beaches.

Check into your accommodation to rest after your journey, and if you have energy to burn, set out in the evening for a stroll along Negombo Beach - you'll certainly be perked up by a delicious seafood dinner and cool beer at one of the waterfront restaurants. Overnight in Negombo.

Day 2: Boat along the Dutch canals of Negombo

Begin your first full day in Sri Lanka with a morning boat ride through the Dutch channels of Negombo, taking you on a fascinating trip back in time. Today's city tour will teach you all about Negombo's colonial heritage and fishing culture, with the chance to dive into the bustling fish market and observe the day-to-day lives of traders.

As part of the day's activities, you can opt to also embark on a boat ride through the wetlands of the Muthurajawela Wetland Sanctuary, where you could spot a wealth of migratory and indigenous bird species.

Day 3: Journey to Sigiriya

In the morning, pack your things and transfer to Sigiriya, about three hours' drive away. There, you'll check into your accommodation and have some time to unwind after your journey.

Once you feel suitably rested and ready for a challenge, take an afternoon climb to the top of the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, from where the panoramas across the lush landscape are truly unforgettable. Take a moment to explore the ancient ruins and frescoes that define this historic monolithic landmark, which dates back to the fifth century.

Day 4: Explore the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa

Today's itinerary will see you leave Sigiriya for the day and transfer to Polonnaruwa. There, you'll have plenty of time to immerse yourself into the ancient ruins of its archaeological park.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to a wealth of tombs, temples, stupas and Buddhist figures, such as the Buddha statues of Gal Vihara. It also features an ancient monastery and the remains of the royal palace of King Parakramabahu the Great, built between 1153 and 1186.

Return to Sigiriya in the late afternoon and relax at your hotel, enjoying its facilities to your heart's content.

Day 5: Charms of Sigiriya & wildlife safari wonders

Spend the morning at leisure or take an optional tour of Sigiriya village, where you'll stroll to observe the daily lives of the locals and find a restaurant to enjoy some of the local flavors.

In the afternoon, you'll transfer to the expansive grounds of Minneriya National Park, Kaudulla National Park, or Hurulu Eco Park, for a safari experience to encounter magnificent elephants, leopards and more (the park will be chosen depending on the location of the elephants at the time).

After a day of wildlife wonders, return to your accommodation in Sigiriya for the evening. Optionally, you could climb to the ancient Pidurangala Buddhist Rock Temple at sunset, to soak up a magnificent view of Lion’s Rock.

Day 6: Dive into iconic temples & cooking classes

Today, leave Sigiriya behind as you transfer to Dambulla to visit the Golden Cave Temple - an expansive and well-preserved complex dating back to the 1st century B.C. This is a mesmerizing and unmissable sight to experience in Sri Lanka; spend a while soaking up its history as you tour its shrine rooms, marvel at around 150 Buddha statues, and admire more than 1,500 murals that adorn its ceilings.

Afterwards, continue your journey to Kandy, where you'll check into your accommodation ahead of an evening visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's home to Buddha's canine tooth. Optionally, join a cooking class in Kandy to have a go at dishing up delicious Sri Lankan dishes.

Day 7: Take the scenic train to Ella

Today, prepare to embark on an enchanting train ride from Kandy to Demodara (subject to availability), passing by the beautiful Nine Arches Bridge built in the 1920s. Surrounded by lush highland landscapes, this journey of six to seven hours is sure to be one of the most unforgettable parts of your Sri Lankan trip.

From Demodara, you'll continue your journey on to Ella, a biodiverse sanctuary for nature-lovers, home to wonderful outdoor experiences and tea estates offering tours and tastings. Upon your arrival there, enjoy a fairly easy hike to Little Adam’s Peak, which reaches an elevation of 1,141m high, before returning to your accommodation for an overnight stay.

Day 8: Into the heart of Yala National Park

In the morning, you'll pay a visit to the Amba Tea Estate, a small organic farm that specializes in the small-scale production of hand-rolled tea. Take a tour of its grounds, visit the tea factory to learn about its artisanal production processes, and enjoy a tea testing session.

In the afternoon, you'll continue on to Yala National Park, for another wonderful overnight experience close to Sri Lankan wildlife. Settling down in your camp accommodation here, you'll feel at one with nature as you take time to relax and unwind.

Day 9: Safari adventures in Yala National Park

Today, you will spend a full day in Yala National Park, including a picnic breakfast and lunch. Embark on safaris to spot leopards, elephants, and other fascinating wildlife, and seek out the other attractions for which the park is known - it's home to the beautiful ancient Rock Temple, a Buddhist monastery that's believed to date back to the 2nd century B.C, which you'll get to visit on your tour. Day 10: Get to know Galle's colonial heritage

From Yala National Park, you'll transfer to the coastal city of Galle, known for its Portuguese colonial heritage and Dutch Fort. Explore its historic buildings and cobblestone streets, losing yourself amidst its old-world charms, before spending an afternoon at the beach and relaxing at your hotel with an overnight stay.
