Detailed Itinerary

Welcome to your Nicaraguan Honeymoon

Managua - San Juan Del Sur

Day 1: Welcome to your Nicaraguan Honeymoon

Welcome to Nicaragua!

Upon arrival it’s time to begin your Nicaraguan honeymoon. Pick up your rental car and start today by enjoying free time in the Capital, Managua. Visit the old cathedral, with its crumbling walls and wonky bell towers and also the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura, where the country’s cultural treasures are housed.

After this, set off along the South Pacific coast, to the small fishing town of San Juan del Sur. Settle into your hotel and enjoy your first evening in this wonderful country.

Wild Beaches and Seafront Meals

San Juan Del Sur

Day 2: Wild Beaches and Seafront Meals

Today is at leisure to enjoy San Juan del Sur.

Spend your day exploring the stunning wild beaches of the Pacific coast, enjoy traditional Nicaraguan dishes at seafront restaurants and relax together while watching the sunset in the beautiful bay of San Juan del Sur.

We can arrange many different activities for you such as horse riding along the beach, massages, dolphin and whale watching or yoga classes to name just some suggestions.

Historic Islands

San Juan Del Sur - Ometepe

Day 3: Historic Islands

Leave San Juan del Sur today and head towards the port of San Jorge, Rivas where you will catch a ferry to the island of Ometepe, the largest island on Lake Nicaragua. With more than 1700 recorded petroglyphs, this island is famous for its pre-Columbian history and is renown as one of the most significant rock art areas in the world.

Once you have arrived on the island, make sure to stop at Punta Jesus Maria at the end of the day to catch the sunset over the beautiful Lake.

From Petroglyphs to Mangroves

Ometepe

Day 4: From Petroglyphs to Mangroves

Today is yours to explore the beautiful island of Ometepe.

We recommend taking a walk to learn about the island’s ancient petroglyphs (rock carvings) and stone statues that have been found all over the island, along with sites containing ceramic urns, pottery and utensils. These were created by the Chorotega Indians who inhabited the island over 1,500 years ago.

Spend the afternoon kayaking amongst the mangroves or go for a swim at Ojo de agua, a natural swimming pool with thermal transparent waters.

If you enjoy hiking, we recommend the beautiful hike up to the San Ramon waterfall.

Meals: Breakfast
Gastronomic Granada

Ometepe - Granada

Day 5: Gastronomic Granada

Today you will leave Ometepe Island and drive to Granada, which is thought to be the oldest colonial city still on its original site on the American continent. Nicknamed The Big Sultana, it is a beautiful city, known for its old colonial architecture and walkable town centre. Explore the city by foot and visit the Cathedral, the church of Merced, and the church Xalteva around which the city of Granada was originally built. Afterwards, head to the central market and spend some time browsing the colourful market stalls.

Granada is also a great gastronomic spot, so make sure to enjoy the city’s many bars and restaurants. In the evening wander up to the fortress of Polvora and enjoy magnificent views over the Calle Real as the sun sets over this wonderful city.

Light Up the Skies!

Granada

Day 6: Light Up the Skies!

Today is at leisure to explore the city of Granada in more depth. Wander the colourful streets and visit its famous saffron yellow cathedral. Much of this city was destroyed with William Walker’s invasion in 1856, but the cathedral was lovingly rebuilt over the years and still stands as a notable point in the city today.

We suggest spending today on a guided city tour or visiting the isletas, the famous volcanic islands close to Granada. We also suggest a guided night tour to Masaya Volcano to see the world’s most accessible active volcano light up the skies with its lava flows! It is also one of the only places in the world where you can see an active lava lake - not something you want to miss!

Meals: Breakfast
Swim in a Volcano

Granada

Day 7: Swim in a Volcano

Today will be spent exploring the Pueblos Blancos, which are the small villages surrounding Masaya, famous for their handicrafts. From beautiful pottery to intricately woven hammocks, there is a wealth of local handicrafts to purchase here.

Wander between Catarina and San Juan de Oriente and browse the small shops located on the porches of houses in this area. If you wish, you can also stop to visit a black ceramic workshop, a specialty of the region.

Spend the afternoon in Catarina, where you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Laguna de Apoyo, an old volcano’s crater nowadays filled with water in which you can swim and kayak.
