This nine-day tour of Malawi introduces you to the country's diverse beauty.
Spend half your trip on safari in the wonderful Liwonde National Park, and then head for the gentle waters of Lake Malawi to relax at the beach.
Stay at an authentic lodge within the borders of the Liwonde National Park and head out on both day and night safaris in search of diverse wildlife such as elephants, hippos and the endangered black rhino. From there you’ll travel to the shores of Lake Malawi to a lush lakeside retreat before hopping on a boat to the deserted Mumbo Island. While you’re there you can kayak, dive and swim in the pristine natural waters and enjoy plenty of peaceful sunsets over the water.

Liwonde National Park - Mvuu Camp
Day 1: Night safari experience
Upon arrival at Blantyre's Chileka International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your driver ahead of your onward journey.
It’s a 4-hour drive to your destination in the Liwonde National Park. Once inside the park, you’ll check in at the welcoming Mvuu Camp where you can enjoy lunch and relax. Perhaps take a dip in the swimming pool, or just kick back and read a book. In the afternoon, you’ll be heading out for a game drive. The first part of the drive will be during the daylight hours. You will then stop for sundowners by the riverbank, before setting off on a night safari in search of nocturnal animals.

Day 2: Free day in Liwonde
Today, enjoy a relaxing breakfast and spend the day in and around the camp. Feel free to just relax at the camp or you might also choose to visit a local elementary school just outside the park and take a stroll around the village.
In the afternoon, take a local wildlife walk within the park before enjoying a delicious dinner.

Day 3: Full-day safari
Today you’ll take a full-day safari with an expert guide.
Liwonde National Park is home to a great wealth of wildlife, including elephants, hippos and the endangered black rhino.
There are river, grassland and woodland habitats to explore and all sorts of animals and birds to look out for.

Day 4: Journey to Lake Malawi
After breakfast at Mvuu Camp, travel by road to the Cape Maclear Retreat on Lake Malawi arriving in time for lunch.
The Makokola Retreat has lush gardens surrounding spacious beach villas and rooms perched along the shores of Southern Lake Malawi.
While staying here you’ll feel truly connected to nature and the beauty of your surroundings.
In the afternoon, you can take a stroll along the lakeshore, admire the views and unwind before dinner.

Day 5: Free day at Lake Malawi
Today is left free for you to enjoy the gardens and swimming pool and take walks along the beach.
If you feel like a little more activity you could get out and about on the water. Optional activities include a boat cruise and snorkelling on Lake Malawi, sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding or kayaking.

Day 6: Setting sail for Mumbo Island
After breakfast today you’ll catch a boat to Mumbo Island Camp, an exclusive escape on an otherwise-deserted island in the Lake Malawi National Park.
Surrounded by nature, guests here can enjoy tranquillity and stunning barefoot luxury. The camp is constructed entirely of timber, thatch and canvas and adheres to strict principles of eco-architecture with six large safari tents with their own shady viewing deck and hammock. The journey to the island takes just thirty minutes.

Day 7: Water sports on Mumbo
Unlike most island destinations in the region, Mumbo Island has never been populated and is still in its natural state.
This, together with the focus on non-motorised water sports, makes Mumbo Island ideal for active outdoor enthusiasts and there are excellent kayaking, snorkelling and SCUBA diving facilities. Guests can choose an outdoor activity to suit them today and enjoy the clear waters of the lake.

Day 8: Relaxing on Mumbo
As well as water sports the remote setting and serene surroundings on Mumbo mean that there is no shortage of opportunities for relaxation.
This will be your last day on the island, so make the most of this beautiful location.
Relax on your deck gazing out at the water, take a walk or a swim or head out for an afternoon on the lake.
As the day draws to a close enjoy one last delicious dinner under the stars.

Day 9: Homeward bound
After breakfast on Mumbo Island, you will head Central to Kamuzu International Airport for your flight back home.
