Yogyakarta

Day 1: Welcome to Indonesia!

Upon arrival at Yogyakarta Airport, your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Yogyakarta is a great place to be for a few days. It's a colorful city with a nice atmosphere.

Day 2: Authentic city culture

There is much to see during today's city tour... Visit the Sultan's Palace, with its grand elegant Javanese architecture. You also will walk through the markets and visit some batik and puppetry workshops. The streets of the Javanese capital are busy from morning until late night. Have a walk and get lost – it's worth it! 

In the evening you can attend a performance of the classic Ramayana ballet, a gamelan art performance. It unites various Javanese arts such as dance, drama and music on one stage.

Borobudur - Candirejo - Yogyakarta

Day 3: Buddhist believes and local traditions

In the morning you will visit one of the largest Buddhist sanctuaries in the world, the Borobudur. It was built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. 

After this experience, you will visit the small village Candirejo, a home to eco-tourism. A local guide will show you around and give you insights to local customs and traditions. Art, handicrafts, traditional health drinks and the agricultural system of inter cropping will be shown.

Day 4: Learn about temples, palaces and fabrics

Today starts your Java overland trip. On the way to Surakarta – locals call it Solo – you will visit the Prambanan Temple complex. This encompasses an impressive number of 224 temple ruins of stunning beauty, devoted to the Hindu gods Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.

Many more sights are waiting for you in Solo like the Sultan’s palace. A local guide will show you the highlights of the city. Watch out for the Batik coloring technique, it has become a crucial part of Indonesian culture.

Sukuh - Malang - Batu

Day 5: Tales of love, mystery and nature

I the morning you will visit Sukuh Temple with its mysterious and erotic sculptures. You can look forward to a revitalising hike of about three hours through a little-known mountain area. A refreshing waterfall is waiting for you at the end of the walk. After arrival in Tawangmangu, you will continue the Java overland trip to Malang and get to know the agricultural heartland of Java.

Day 6: Tea gardens & volcano view

On the way to Bromo, you will make a stop at the tea gardens of Wonosari. Here you can visit a tea factory, where a guide can show and explain to you the whole process of tea production. After a a relaxing walk through the stunning landscape, you can enjoy a cup of the local herbs. 

In the early noon, you will drive to the Bromo volcano via Probolinggo. Here you will stay overnight in Cemoro Lawang, right on the outside edge of the Tengger crater. Your stay in Bromo, and the ascent to the top of the crater will certainly be a highlight of your trip.

Day 7: Sunrise at the crater

Your reward for getting up at 4am will be an unforgettable sunrise at Mount Bromo. After the arrival in the dark, you can watch as the sun breaks the horizon to reveal Java’s most inspiring landscape. As the active vulcano smoulders beneath your feet, the primordial volcanic landscape will appear. Watch local horsemen kicking up dust trails in their wake, as they gallop across the volcanic plains. After this amazing experience you will return to the hotel for a tasty breakfast and some free hours, before you continue the trip to Kalibaru.

This morning you will visit the spice garden of Ibu Harnik, see the production of brown sugar and tofu

Day 9: Ferry crossing to Bali

A transfer will bring you to the harbour, where you get on board of the ferry. The ferry crossing from Java to Bali takes not more than half an hour. In the everyday life of the Balinese the fight between good and evil, whether or not symbolic, is often very prominent. This is reflected in the many symbols and ceremonies representing the traditional religion of Bali, the Agama Hindu Bali. However, these diametric oppositions are less black and white than we think. The Balinese realize that evil is a necessary aspect in the order of things, to give the good a chance to manifest itself. You will start to learn this after your arrival in Pemuteran.

Day 10: Snorkeling at Menjangan Island

This morning you will spend the day relaxing in this small paradise. Explore one of the most beautiful underwater worlds of Indonesia around the island of Menjangan. Thousands of colored fish and wonderfully shaped coral formations welcome you under the warm, crystal clear water.

Pemuteran

Day 11: Free day at the island

Bali is a popular and often visited island, but the northern half is in fact little visited. Today it's up to you: Relax in Pemuteran or travel around the area. Massage at the beach, road trip through the villages or looking for sports – you decide!

Pemuteran - Bedugul - Ubud

Day 12: Amazing sights & landscapes

Today you continue your trip to Ubud and there are many sights on your way. On the way you will have stop at Twin Lake. A wonderful route through the famous strawberry plantations of this area brings you to Bedugul and its lake Bratan. The famous temple Pura Ulun Danu is also worth visiting. Just outside Bedugul you can have a walk through the picturesque Botanical Gardens and visit the Royal Family Temple in Mengwi.

Ubud

Day 13: Spiritual tour

Today you will learn about the role of spiritualism in Bali. The tour will start an offering (Canang) brought to the temples. The guide will explain how to offer and the way of making the prayer before you will take a holy bath at Tirta Empul Temple.

Then you will drive to Gunung Kawi along beautiful rice fields. On your way you can see the King tombs, commemorating the Udayana Kingdom, and have your lunch at a beautiful spot amidst the rice fields. After lunch you can join several activities and go for a visit of the temples Goa Gajah and Yeh Pulu (additional price).

Ubud

Day 14: Cycling, palaces & galleries

A wide range of optional excursions is possible for exploring Ubud and its surroundings. Interesting temples and palaces as the Elephant Cave, Tampak Siring, Tirta Empul, or the famous Pura Besakih (the mother temple) and Kintamani are only a few of the interesting sights to visit. Trekking, white water rafting, bike tours and spa treatments are also available. Not to forget the interesting dance performances, temple ceremonies, art galleries... It's your choice!

Day 15: Goodbye, Indonesia!
