After exploring this wonder, we'll take a refreshing break to recharge. Then, a short drive takes us to Angkor Thom, another impressive temple complex. Our final adventure leads us to Ta Phrom, a captivating temple where towering trees and gigantic roots intertwine with the ancient stone blocks.

Day 5: Get behind the wheel & explore

Your self-drive vintage jeep tour starts today, leaving Siem Reap and setting out into the beautiful countryside. On the way, we will stop at the local fish market, where you can observe the busy activity of the stalls and bargaining customers. Continuing, we visit one of the most impressive floating villages in Cambodia, Kampong Kleang. Here we’ll board a boat and explore the floating village. At lunchtime, visit a stilt house in the village to share a typical Khmer lunch with the friendly locals. After eating and chatting, we hit the road again to Kampong Thom, where you'll check into your new hotel and have a free evening to relax.

Kampong Thom - Chloung

Day 6: Journey across the Mekong

Set off after breakfast on a scenic drive through the countryside. We’ll make several stops along the way – first to see some impressive carvings in huge stone blocks. Then we’ll pull in at a local rubber plantation to learn more about the workings of the rubber industry. We’ll be crossing the mighty Mekong River today, the 12th-longest river in the world that flows from the Tibetan Plateau to the South China Sea. On the east side of the Mekong is the old French colonial town of Chloung. In this peaceful and traditional town, we will spend the night in the former governor’s mansion and experience Cambodia’s colonial past first-hand.

Chloung - Kampi - Koh Trong

Day 7: Jeep touring the Mekong

After breakfasting in style, our jeep adventure continues along the banks of the Mekong River, passing through a series of Muslim Cham villages. These settlements were formed when the Cham fled Vietnam and have added a new cultural dimension to the area. At Kampi, we board a boat for an Irrawaddy Dolphin-spotting tour. These rare, endangered freshwater dolphins live in a beautiful section of the Mekong River. The chance of seeing them playing in the rapids is very high, so have your camera ready. After Kampi, we head back to Kratie where we will take a ferry to Koh Trong Island. With a local guide, explore by bike and find out all about island life.

Later, we'll head back to Chloung in the jeep for dinner and another night in the old governor's mansion.

Jeep journey to the capital

Chloung - Phnom Penh

Day 8: Jeep journey to the capital

Leaving Chloung after breakfast, follow the path of the mighty Mekong towards the city of Kampong Cham. During the dry season when the water level in the Mekong River is low enough, a bamboo bridge is constructed to connect to Koh Pen Island. In the past, we were able to drive our jeeps across this bridge, but unfortunately this is no longer possible. However, you can still walk across it. We continue our way along the Mekong and drive through small quaint villages.

The last stretch to Phnom Penh is via small roads and villages. Visit an old pagoda with a french colonial building. Just in front of Phnom Penh we will take a ferry boat to cross the Mekong. In the later afternoon, you arrive in the capital where you say goodbye to your guide and support team. Being able to drive a jeep through Cambodia for 4 days is quite an experience and an adventure to remember.

Day 9: Phnom Penh tuk-tuk tour

After breakfast, prepare to be transported through Phnom Penh's tumultuous history this morning, as you climb aboard a traditional Khmer tuk-tuk for a city tour. Our first stop is a dazzling display of Khmer architecture at the Royal Palace. Next, we take a short climb to Wat Phnom. This tranquil pagoda, perched atop a 35m hill offers peaceful respite amid the city's buzz. As we continue, prepare for a more sombre experience with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former detention and torture centre. Our final stop is Choeung Ek, also known as the Killing Fields. While undoubtedly disturbing, these visits are essential for understanding the resilience of the Cambodian people and their unwavering spirit as they move towards a brighter future.

After visiting this important site, head back to your hotel for a free evening to reflect and relax.
