Brilliant experience in India

There were a few minor details that we will share with the partner company but overall we were very happy with the trip planned for us. It was a great experience and we would recommend travel local to anyone looking to plan such a trip.

What was good about our local partner based in India?

Before travel we were very happy with Nutan and all our dealings with her. On the whole they were punctual and we were welcomed everywhere by a representative of the company. We were generally impressed by the organisation of our trip. Everything went extremely well. with the exception of the hotel in Agra we were very happy with the hotels used.

What could our local partner based in India improve on?

We were told we would be given flight tickets and hotel vouchers on arrival at Hyderabad airport. However the representative didn't have them and said he would get back to us. He phoned later and said they would be delivered later to the hotel. However we did not receive them until 10pm the following day. We didn't like the hotel used for our stay in Agra.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Most of the guides were outstanding but the guide in Agra talked at us far too much. He knew his stuff but just gave us information overload.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to India?

Take everything you think you might need with you - shopping is not like at home. Change money at the airport. The rate isn't so good but we found it very difficult to change our money in Hyderabad. Our guide book had said the State Bank of India was good for exchanging money - it wasn't, and we spent 3 hours trying to exchange our money. Don't eat meat if want to avoid upset stomach.

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

We loved the Dera Mandawa Hotel in Jaipur. After Agra this was balm for the soul! Lovely, family owned hotel who couldn't do enough for you. Also our hotel in Udaipur was stunning. The Taj Mahal and the Amber fort. The guide in Dehli was outstanding. The people - helpful and friendly in the main.

Our local partner based in India replied...

Dear Pauline, Thank you very much for your feedback and also for your very kind words. I am glad to know that you had a great trip …. Dera Mandawa is indeed a lovely place and the owners are good friends with us… I stayed there again last month with my family. Fatehgarh too is a lovely property, I am glad you enjoyed it too. Unfortunately, there are no small properties of charm and character in Agra which is such a shame. Other than largish modern hotels there are only a couple of acceptable home-stays which we are reluctant to recommend in the summer months due to lack of facilities like good air-conditioning and pool; and for the fact that in summer months these may be completely empty. As for the feedback on delayed delivery of documents in Hyderabad, we have taken it up strongly with our Hyderabad agents. We are terribly sorry for this inconvenience. Thank you once again for your feedback. I really hope you return to India and we are able to serve you again. My best wishes, Nutan
