The trip exceeded my expectations. TravelLocal and the Local Expert fulfilled my wishes in terms of places I wanted to see and accommodated my requests for a flexible schedule and the chance to wander around different places and eat in local restaurants. Everything was well organised and happened exactly as scheduled.
Initially the local expert supplied a bog-standard tourist itinerary which was a little disappointing as I thought I had made it clear that this was not something I wanted. But subsequently they were really helpful and organised an itinerary that met - and exceeded - my wishes. All the pre-arrival information was very clear and helpful, and I was glad to have Mustafa to guide me through the arrival process.
Can't think of anything.
Zac (Bader) was brilliant, and became a true friend. I greatly valued his company and his willingness to talk about life in Jordan and his family history. I learnt a great deal. I also felt truly honoured to be invited to his home, and if he and his family ever do come to the UK I will gladly invite them in turn to my home. He was also a really good driver! Zac immediately understood that I wanted to get off the beaten track as much as possible and to eat in local restaurants, not tourist places. He was very willing to stop the car so I could go for a walk in the desert, for instance, and gave me lots of useful advice about where to go and how to behave. He showed me good places to eat and shop. In short, Zac was a real travelling companion.
Have a little more time in Amman than I had. Try to avoid the big tourist hotels.
Eating stand-up lunch (falafel wrap, freshly cooked kebab) in roadside restaurants. Seeing Petra. Walking around Downtown in Amman. Going to Um 'Qais.
