Our Greek Odyssey / Escape through Peloponnese, Crete, Mykonos and Athens

We. Loved. Every. Minute. We booked our almost 4 week holiday to Greece in the depths of the January lockdown. Our trip by foot, car, boat, ferry and plane in 8 locations was perfect. The local expert helped us choose each route, each hotel and in several cases even the beaches, sights and a mountain stopover. Rebecca also saved us from an encounter with a forest fire placing us in safety (and luxury). Over our trip we visited 5 locations circling the Peloponnese with an emphasis on the beaches of the south, including Napflio, Koroni, Monemvasia, stopping briefly in Ancient Olympia (postponed because of the fires) and diverted via Costa Navarro. The Peloponnese had far more than we expected to see - not just great beaches, tavernas and ancient sites, but also mountain resorts and valleys (Dimitsana), excellent refined restaurants, beautiful small warren like towns and Ottoman, Roman and North African history. The roads were universally excellent. Going from Peloponnese to Crete on the Ferry was far better than we anticipated and made a good change from driving and flying. Concluding in Chania was a nice respite too and we also had a superb week in Rethymno, with the local expert providing us the best advice of going to the South Side of Crete for the quieter beaches. Finally being in Mykonos and Athens brought us back to the high end, high luxury beach life, albeit we also enjoyed a spectacular day on a boat around Mykonos' neighbouring islands an adventure in the occassionally choppy seas.

What was good about our local partners in Greece?

Rebecca and her team. Always in the right location (my daughters cheered when Rebecca's team were helping coordinate). The selection of hotels and sights were perfect and the use of the Travefy app helped on the itinerary greatly.

What could our local partners in Greece improve on?

We could thank Rebecca and her team more. Being evacuated out of Olympia and being chaperoned to a safe location was as difficult as things got, and Rebecca was on the end of the phone and organising ahead of us thinking. She also saved us when intra Greek travel required Covid testing which we only found out less than an hour before boarding (and we made it!)

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Excellent on every count. Efficient, courteous, on top of detail, perfect communication skills.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Greece?

Go for as long as you can and take the chance to go to the less well known places - food is incredible, hospitality is without exception warm and open and perhaps not intuitive is that it is better the further you go from the main Islands or towns. Finding time to relax is critical for a road trip, and the local expert did a top job of making sure we stayed long enough in each place.

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

Our five days in Koroni at Camvilias was the best hotel, staff, food and beach. Everything was informal, easy and relaxed eased by a fantastic location and seaside. Our boat excursion with George at Fishing and Diving was all the better for George our skipper (arranged by Camvilias)
