Great trip, lots of variety, we were well looked after

With one exception the travel arrangements were flawless. The 'exception' was dealt with speedily and professionally. Hotel recommendations were very good although we felt some rooms at Hotel Bantu in Cartagena (where we stayed three times) were less desirable than others (dark and small). Guides were personable and knowledgeable. Drivers punctual and courteous.

What was good about our local partner based in Colombia?

Prompt and caring communications. Listened to our personal preferences re activities and downtime. Layla should be mentioned for her professional and friendly approach.

What could our local partner based in Colombia improve on?

Perhaps provided a choice of hotel with descriptions and pros and cons so we could make a final decision

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Roberto in Cartagena provided a very good and informative street food tour. Ricardo in Medellin provided an excellent 'transformation' tour. Our birding guide in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta was very knowledgeable . No complaints really, but he so wanted us to see the endemic species when we would have been quite happy to see the less sought after ones.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Colombia?

If I were to repeat the trip, I wouldn't do a street food tour in both Cartagena and Medellin--too similar. Medellin is not to be missed for its fascinating recent history. January and February are traditionally windy months which was fine for the two cities we visited, but the 2-hour boat trip to Múcura Island and Punta Faro hotel was wet and arduous. While there we couldn't kayak or snorkel on several of the days because of the rough seas. We might not have chosen to go to such a distant island had we known. On the other hand, the resort itself was very nice with lovely food.

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

The transportation system in Medellin. Seamless integration of buses, trains, cable cars, elevators, bicycles should serve as a model for cities everywhere. View from the kogihut at El Dorado in the Sierra Nevada (but the food left a little to be desired so not sure I would totally recommend the lodge there).
