We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and felt it had been organised well. We had some excellent guides who had a wealth of knowledge and experience that they shared with us. We stayed in some lovely accommodation, the arenal springs had magnificent views of the volcano. The Alta hotel was a great finish to the holiday with stunning views of San Jose and very convenient for the airport transfer. Beautiful beaches in Manuel Antonio national park. No guide was required as we had previously seen quite a lot in Tortuguero.
Itinerary was very well put together and just the right amount of time spent at each location.
It would have been good to have met someone from the team during our holiday. An attempt was made but by the time we replied to Soledad’s phone call it was too late for her to get to us. There was mention of her contacting us a little later and to run through the itinerary during our time away but this did not happen (this is one thing that I could also have initiated). As a result of this there were a couple of calls that had to be made to clear up a discrepancies with the itinerary we were sent and the itinerary we received on arrival to San Jose. Day 5, 6 and 7 @ Arenal Springs hotel. Our itinerary mentions breakfast and dinner on Days 5 and 7.The day by day program does not mention dinner and as a result we paid for dinner for 2 nights. Day 10, 11 and 12 @ Cristal Ballena. Our itinerary mentions dinner is included for 3 nights. The hotel were not aware of this. When I spoke with Elizabeth she confirmed dinner was included however there was an additional issue where we were informed by the hotel that the company would only pay for 2 nights. On further inquiry this was finally sorted and we had nothing to pay. Day 13 @ Alta hotel: we had to check whether there was a limit on what we could spend for dinner. It would have been useful to have known this beforehand.
All of the guides were very good and knowledgeable. The ones who stood out were Alejandro at LamPas waterfall, Luis at Tortuguero, Jonathan who accompanied us from San Jose to Guapiles. The drivers/transfers were always on time, ususally early and to be commended for this.
Excellent breakfast at hotel Presidente, however we would not necessarily have choose to stay there. Would have preferred something in the range of the Alta hotel where we stayed for our last night but more central. Manatus hotel was lovely, we enjoyed our stay there. If there during the turtle season take the night trip to see turtles laying their eggs. A wonderful spectacle!
Turtle watching at night and seeing one return to sea in the early morning
