A superb holiday enhanced by the excellent guide and driver

We flew to Kutaisi, met the guide and driver and headed to Svaneti where we enjoyed four days of serious walking in the Caucasus. The organisation thoughout was faultless, the accommodation of a good standard and serving delicious home made meals (ample proportions!). The guide knew a lot about the history and traditions of the Svaneti area, which meant that we got a lot more out of visiting the historic sites, and when on walks took great care of us ensuring our safety at all times. We also benefitted from local guides on the walks which offered spectacular views, great variety of beautiful locations, wonderful displays of wild flowers and fine bird life. The whole process of booking and then taking the holiday was very straightforward. It was also great value and we will be recommending TravelLocal to our friends and relations.

What was good about our local partner based in Georgia?

The whole interaction with the local agent was handled extremely well. I liked the initial dialogue which helped us to plan the trip and in practice the plan suited us perfectly. Everyone I dealt with was very friendly and helpful and queries were promptly dealt with. Well done!

What could our local partner based in Georgia improve on?

Can't think of anything as it was all so well organised.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

We had a great relationship with our guide Irakli and driver Vlado. Both were excellent and made the holiday. Irakli was knowledgable and helpful. He looked after us very well and was always conscious of our safety and well being. We could not have asked for a better guide. Our driver took us to places we could never have got to on our own and was first rate.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Georgia?

Mestia is a good base with some fine walks in the local area. They should also go to Ushgali which is stunning. It would however be worth drawing attention to the standard of some of the roads (particularly to Ushgali) which are not for the faint heated!

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

Ushgali, the tranquility of the church and the hike up to the glacier. The hospitality of the Georgian people. The food at Jenni's guest house in Becho!
