Excellent short introduction to Panama

We enjoyed our three days in and around Panama City very much. The highlight was the partial transit of the Canal which we followed with a lengthy visit to the History of the Canal museum in the old town. The old town itself is worth a long stroll - the good news is the amount of extensive and sensitive restorations to many buildings. This is in sharp contrast to the high rise architecture in the new city with again some interesting buildings. A visit to the Soberania NP is an accessible introduction to the wildlife and birds of Panama. The Frank Gehry designed Biomuseum is well sited and striking in its gaudy design and colours - worth a visit but will be better when the planned new galleries open next year.

What was good about our local partner based in Panama?

Quick, efficient and sensitive responses to emails resulting in a great, although sadly brief, trip to Panama.

What could our local partner based in Panama improve on?

As Australians, who don’t have a culture of paying tips, it would be preferable to have the guides and drivers paid appropriately so tipping is not necessary. (It is too easy to forget.......) If this was done, a recommendation “in small print” could be something like “if you wish, please consider giving a tip to anyone who provides exceptional service”.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Fabio Trujillo was an excellent, thoughtful and knowledgeable guide. Both drivers were sensible and friendly.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Panama?

Make sure you do a trip on the canal and wander around the old town of Panama.

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

The canal transit.
