Where to go in November

|

November is one of those in between months with nothing much to recommend it. In much of Europe, nights are getting longer, autumn drizzle is a recurring feature and the heat of summer seems unreasonably distant. Nicaragua - San JuanBut TravelLocal has plenty of November hot-spots to consider, and with our hand picked local experts in situ ready to help you create the perfect trip, you can start planning right away.

Wherever you are, if the first signs of winter are getting you down, or you are daydreaming of somewhere altogether warmer and bluer of sky, here is some inspiration for where to travel in November.

***

Senegal

Pelicans in SenegalNovember is the beginning of the dry season in Senegal, with temperatures reliably hitting the mid-twenties and little chance of rain. Discover some of the best sites for birdwatching in the region just as the migratory species are at their peak, or uncover the colonial island city of St Louis, with its appealing jazz scene. Dakar is always a vibrant place to visit – take a morning to experience the frenetic markets or an evening to explore the famous nightlife. Water based adventures are easy to come by in Senegal, whether you delve into the Sine-Saloum delta, cruise the Senegal river or beach hop on the Atlantic coast.

Oman

oman wadiThe fierce summer heat has cooled to moderate by November, but is still warm enough for waterside activities and sunbathing. With so much to see, however, lounging in the sun might not seem so appealing. Oman’s riches include some impressive mountain ranges which conceal wadis such as Wadi Ghul, Oman’s Grand Canyon. Other wadis are more easily accessible and hold brilliant turquoise pools perfect for cooling off and taking in the beauty of the surroundings. Historic Nizwa and Muscat are packed with iconic mosques and dense with treasure trove souks perfect for souvenir shopping, while the coast hides stunning coves, some of which are breeding sites for many turtle species.

Argentina

Argentina - BarilocheNovember in Argentina sees spring just tipping over into summer, and can be a delightful time to travel around this vast land. The lakes of Bariloche will be surrounded by flowering pastures at this time, and the arid North around Salta is at its greenest. Buenos Aires enjoys pleasant temperatures for sightseeing without the full on heat and crowds of the summer high season, and in Patagonia, November ushers in early season visitors who can enjoy the sights in relative calm before the high season begins in December. Spring is a good season for whale watching, too, and the Iguazú Falls will be at their fullest.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua lush forestThe dry season of Nicaragua starts in earnest in November, but the wet season is only just over so the country is at its greenest. Temperatures are pleasantly warm – usually around the high twenties – so sightseeing in the showstopping colonial cities such as Granada and Leon is not too sticky. It’s also the perfect climate for Nicaragua’s appealing natural attractions, including volcano hikes, cloud forest adventures, lush landscapes, the gorgeous Caribbean beaches of the Corn islands, and numerous jaw dropping wildlife encounters.
