Things that are great about Nicaragua: Volcanoes: sledge down the cinder slope of Cerro Negro, watch the sun sink into the Pacific ocean surrounded by sulphurous gases from the top of Telica, explore the cloud forest of Mombacho, visit the bat caves of the Masaya volcano. Spend time on amazing Ometepe in the middle of Lake Nicaragua in the shadow of the Concepcion volcano. Beaches: Little Corn Island in the Caribbean and the beaches around San Juan del Sur are magnificent with crystal clear water Rainforest: go 65km down the Rio San Juan to El Castillo and enjoy virgin rainforest at Guacimo Lodge. The wildlife: macaws, toucans, iguanas, monkeys, caiman and crocodiles in Rio San Juan, go snorkelling with sharks in Little Corn Island, turtles hatching (in season) on the Pacific coast and so many species of birds throughout the country. Sloths at Morgan's Rock. Beds - Nicaraguans make supremely comfortable beds! Luxury: yes Nicaragua does luxury and it does it brilliantly. Yemaya Reefs (Little Corn), Jicaro Island (Las Isletas) and Morgan's Rock (SJDS) bear comparison with the very best in the world. Authenticity: Nicaragua is totally authentic with not even a hint of the heavy hand of corporatism. Safety: Nicaragua is safe. You might not want to spend much time in Managua but don't listen to all those people who have never been there who want to tell you it isn't safe. It is. The People: almost ridiculously nice. Many of them may have very little but they give so much. The Guides: they know their stuff, love their country and speak good English. And finally, to enjoy all of this you need a first class travel agent. TravelLocal's partners at NIcaragua are excellent - totally reliable, always punctual and very friendly.
