Old Delhi’s Bazaar

|

Imagine the busiest, most bustling market scene you can. Now multiply that by ten and you still won’t get close to Old Delhi’s bazaar. Umpteen tradesmen ply a myriad of mundane and not so mundane objects; highly skilled craftsmen beaver away in the smallest of workshops producing all sorts of treasures. Take a deep breath and dive in – it’s not really possible to take a gentle stroll through these narrow, medieval alleyways – you have to continually duck and dive, avoiding delivery boys rushing past with box-laden barrows, traders encouraging you to sample their wares, and the odd worker having lunch in the street. You’ll be amazed at the rich variety of life, at the number of people crammed into the narrow maze of streets, and at the ability of traders to have a crafty afternoon nap amongst all the din.
