We booked this holiday as a special 20 years anniversary holiday so had lots of hopes and dreams for it. It turned out the holiday was much better than we had expected. One of my favourite activity was the visit to the mountain gorillas in Bwindi National Park, it was such a privilege to be able to see these beautiful animals up close and in their natural environment. But each and every one of our activities has created lasting and beautiful memories. My husband especially enjoyed the Water Safari on the Kazinga Channel, Queen Elizabeth National Park where we saw big herds of elephants, hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes and a huge variation of birds, it was stunning especially as we were in a very small boat with only three passengers and a very knowledgeable guide. We were also very glad that we did not do any of our travelling between parks by flying, even though we spend some long hours in the car there was so much to see on the way we would have really missed out had we flown form one park to the other. Not only would I recommend Uganda as a fantastic holiday destination with a huge variation of environments and activities available, I can also highly recommend Rachel, who organised the tour, and Ibra as a driver.
The organisation of our trip was done by Rachel, she took lots of time to get to know us and find out what we liked before coming up with the perfect itinerary for us. Every time we had questions she replayed very quickly and removed any of the hassle of organising a trip in a foreign country. She booked some amazing accommodation and all within the budget we had allocated her. With the documents such as: things to know before you go, tipping advice and packing list for the various activities we had planned we were very well prepared and could just sit back and enjoy the trip
The only small thing that we can think of is a portable fridge in the van as my husband prefers his water cold and it can get quiet warm during the day.
Ibra our driver/guide was very friendly with a wicked sense of humor he is exceptionally well organised and looked after us so well. His driving was safe and considered to our comfort under at times very difficult circumstances. He also had an amazing knowledge about local history, wildlife and vegetation and spent lots of time patiently answering all our questions regarding life in Uganda. Together as a team Ibra with the rangers from each of the parks we visited made sure that we an amazing experience with an unbelievable diversity of mammals, birds and fauna. We could not have asked for a better companion for our trip and we named him number 1 driver of Uganda.
Ensure that you allocate plenty of time and try to book a variety of activities there are plenty to chose from: water safari, walking safari, chimpanzee habituation experience, gorilla tracking and many more. This way you will see the huge variation of environments that exist in Uganda. I would also recommend that you spend some time with local people, they are so friendly and welcoming and are very proud to show you all Uganda has to offer. We stayed in a lot of Nature Lodges which were perfect for us, very comfortable and always very close to nature and the animals, we even had a hippo visiting the camp In Queen Elisabeth National park during dinner time.
For me it would have to be the mountain gorillas, I find it hard to put into words the feeling I had when I was sitting in the rain forest only meters away from these amazing animals. It was such a privilege to have had the opportunity to see them in their natural habitat, one I will never forget.
