Incredible trip and amazing guide!

We had the most incredible 10 days in Uganda - everything was perfect, super organized and stress free! Our guide, Jonathan, was fantastic and the trip wouldn't have been the same without him - he was not only very informative and made sure everything was as planned, he was also great company. We loved the beauty of Uganda, the amazing experiences walking with chimpanzees and tracking mountain gorillas, and hiking to the top of Murchison Falls. Our only regret was not arranging a longer trip - but this just means we'll be back again to see more!

What was good about Our local partner based in Uganda?

Our local experts were fantastic. The whole trip was so well organised, every accommodation, excursion, boat trip etc. knew to expect us and when we were arriving. The whole trip was completely stress free for us and we just relaxed and let ourselves be shepherd along each day! Steve was excellent from the beginning, with recommendations and suggestions that we hadn't considered (and some we didn't even know were going to be possible!) I really appreciated how quickly we received responses to our messages and questions, it made the whole process so easy for us to arrange. The overall service and experienced we received from the Uganda team was superb, the best company we have travelled with in terms of their customer service - they gained our full confidence right from the beginning and continued to deliver throughout our booking process and the whole trip.

What could Our local partner based in Uganda improve on?

We couldn't find fault with them - they were excellent.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Our guide, Jonathan, was amazing. He really became a part of our trip and the experience wouldn't have been the same without him! Jonathan was so calm and organized, very informative and made sure to point things out along the journey to make sure we didn't miss anything. Jonathan was great company and really looked after us throughout the whole trip. He knew the right groups to put us in for the gorilla tracking to make sure we got the best experience that suited our preference; when two boats were leaving for the same trip, Jonathan made sure we were in the smaller boat so that we could have a better experience and get much closer to the animals; he carefully selected the best guides who would be patient to give us enough time with the animals without rushing us on. Jonathan really was incredible and he is excellent at his job - he has great people skills, he is a careful driver (despite the sometimes difficult terrain due to the weather I always felt very safe with Jonathan as our captain!), he is calm, reassuring, very organized, knowledgeable, and has a good sense of humor! - we feel very lucky to have had Jonathan be a part of our trip :)

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Uganda?

The Murchison River Lodge was a really lovely place to stay with beautiful sunsets over the river in the evenings and the sound of the hippos in the river below (and sometimes on land nearby!) The drive between destinations can be long but not to be put off by this - the drives can offer some exceptional scenery and an insight into rural Ugandan village life. Take ear plugs - not to block out the wildlife at night but some accommodations may be near to loud music. Take some warm jumpers to Bwindi, it's colder than you might think! (I sat with a hot water bottle strapped to me at dinner and slept with three of them in my bed at night!)

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

Danny's most memorable part is walking alongside the chimpanzees - he was terrified of chimpanzees before we went (to the point I had to actually talk him into doing the chimp tracking!) but he found the experience incredible and has a new found love of chimpanzees! My most memorable part would be the gorilla tracking - the 5 hour round hike made it all the more of a reward when we were with them, it really felt like we'd had to work to see them and were then rewarded with the time to be around them. It was hard work but with an amazing pay-off! We also really enjoyed walking with the rhino, the beautiful boat trip in Jinja to the source of the Nile, seeing the tree climbing lions and spending so much time with the elephants, hippo, giraffe and other animals on the game drives. The trip exceeded our expectations and we felt very spoilt at the end of it all!
