The trip, organised by TravelLocal's Armenia experts, went really well from the start of the booking process to our departure from Yerevan. Inga helped design a two-week trip that ticked all our preferences and covered nine out of ten Armenian regions giving us a very comprehensive view of the country's culture, history and natural environment, with a good balance between hiking and driving. She also selected lunch and dinner menus designed to enable us to experience the diversity and excellence of Armenian cuisine. The guide (Ani) and driver (Vahram) who accompanied us did a fantastic job, facilitating the trip, providing us with all the information and support we needed and reacting flexibly and quickly to our (few) requests to tweak the itinerary to accommodate changes in weather. They were also very interesting companions to travel with.
Comprehensive knowledge, responsiveness and flexibility to customer preferences, overwhelming desire to make trip a success.
I have already suggested to them that they need to establish an independent review process to help prospective customers arrive at a judgement. Armenia is a country rich in history and culture and any trip there involves attempting to absorb a range of facts and dates: it would be helpful both to travellers and guides to provide simple fact historical fact sheets and timelines.
Both excellent. Vahram, the driver, was consummate 'fixer' facilitating the journey at every stage, without any knowledge of English! Ani, the guide, was particularly passionate about the Armenian mountains - a passion which rubbed off on us.
Try to travel round the country, rather than doing day trips out of Yerevan, so as to get a rounded picture of the environmental diversity of this small, mountainous country. Armenian food is well-prepared, wholesome and plentiful and Armenians are unstoppably hospitable. In Yerevan, the Tuffenkian hotel and its restaurant were particularly good.
Hard to single out, but, for different reasons: the Armenian Genocide Museum and the Matenderan repository, both in Yerevan, and ascending the southern summit of Mount Aragats
