Great Trip to Borneo

Great to be collected at each point by drivers and guides who spoke English. The hiking, cave trips, boat trip and Marriott Resort and Spa at Mulu were perfect. The trip to Kota Kinabalu was most disappointing. Having visited Mulu and then going on to Sepilok, spending 4 1/2 hours in a car to visit Kinabalu National Park was a waste of time for us. Perhaps a trip out to the islands would have been a better option. The only redeeming feature of Kota Kinabalu was the fish market. Delicious fresh fish which was cooked to order! Sepilok and My Nature Resort would have been worth 2 nights instead of one! The orangutans were amazing to watch. We also saw the sun bears. Mulu and Sepilok were the highlights of our visit and on both accounts TravelLocal did an excellent job.

What was good about our local partner based in Malaysia and Borneo?

Yati was most responsive when we contacted her in Borneo. English speaking guides and drivers made our trip easier.

What could our local partner based in Malaysia and Borneo improve on?

Skip the Jesselton Hotel! If you are going to have guests driven for 4 1/2 hours to visit Kinabalu National Park, please let them know in advance. I would have changed this part if I knew how much time we were going to be in the car. The hike in this park was not exactly suitable for people in their 70s! Please take into account the travel time and the size of the airport before sending people there to sit for hours. Totally unnecessary and a complete waste of time that could be spent seeing someplace else or relaxing.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Both guides and drivers were excellent.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Borneo?

Visit Mulu and Sepilok for definite. Skip Kota Kinabalu unless you are going to the islands.

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

Seeing the orangutans was the highlight for us. They seem almost human.
