Firstly, I was apprehensive about using TravelLocal as I had never heard them before. Funny enough every review I read when I done my research was so positive it made me doubt their legitimacy (I’m a slight paranoid individual). Anyhow, I decided to go ahead and book a 10 day trip to Uganda, travelling solo as a female. From the very start I was put in touch with the local Ugandan team who throughout the entire planning process did what ever they could to shape And form the itinerary to meet my expectations. They were flexible and ready to have a call and respond to any questions I had. It was a real personal touch and I absolutely felt I was in safe hands - this is prior to me reaching to my destination by the way! Once I landed in Uganda I met my guide/driver and it was just such a pleasure to share my experience with him. I had told the team that I was slightly nervous travelling solo as I had never done it before and they had really done a great job selecting Tom as my driver. He was very experienced, knowledgeable and a real sweet individual, and most importantly took care of me during my stay and ensured I felt safe. He went over and beyond and definitely played a huge part in allowing me to have the best holiday I have had to date. I want to thank Rachel and her team in Uganda for their great work and for making me feel safe and looked after, and thanks to TravelLocal for allowing me to book my holiday through this robust process where you are directly in touch with the local agents. It was an amazing experience! I cannot recommend your local partners in Uganda enough if you are planning to visit Africa/Uganda they are amazing! Esra
Everything! From the start to finish they made me feel looked after and ensured that my trip was planned according to my expectations and requirements. A great personal touch, I was able to contact Rachel and my driver Tom (he is an absolute gem) at any point of I felt the need to and that made me feel safe.
The only thing I would suggest is to reconsider ensure other organisations such as Edirisa follow requests. I.e Tom my driver was supposed to join me on the island stay but couldn’t, and the island hosts were supposed to give me a tour which also didn’t happen.
I was very lucky enough to have Tom as my driver/guide. Rachel and the team couldn’t have picked a more suited individual. He was an absolute pleasure to share my experience with. Tom is very knowledgeable about the culture in Uganda, wildlife and many more topics and was able to share many detailed information with me along our journey. He is a experienced and careful driver and throughout my stay ensured I felt safe and met my expectations of the holiday. It can be quite an awkward experience to share almost most of your time with a stranger on your own but I really enjoyed my time and would like to thank Tom from the bottom of my heart for taking such good care of me!
To be prepared for having times with out electricity, depending on your accommodation. I was prepared and had brought a torch along so I was fine. If your planning a relaxed holiday, depending on your itinerary then this trip may not be for you. There’s a lot of early starts but it’s the nature of the trip and getting from A to B can take a good few hours at times.
The gorilla trekking, watching a leopard walk past our car during the game drive in Queen Elizabeth national park and the community experiences, such as the school visits I had attended and the Batwa community tour.
