A truly memorable holiday

Having a local company in Sri Lanka organise our itinerary resulted in a fantastic experience taking us to a diverse and great range of locations. In particular, they were able to source accommodation that was often unique and in great locations (treehouses, luxury tents, stunning views, glorious beaches). This was a holiday that would have been very difficult to self-plan or find via big operator. A truly memorable holiday.

What was good about our local partner based in Sri Lanka?

The itinerary they planned and the range and uniqueness of much of the accommodation. They judged the 'pace' of the itinerary very well so we didn't do too much or too little and responded very well to our interests. When we had a problem at one of our locations they were very helpful in sorting it out with us. Our driver, Nihal, was excellent, great company to have on our trip.

What could our local partner based in Sri Lanka improve on?

Only small things. In one location- Sigiriya- we had unique accommodation in dehigaha ela but it's relative remoteness and difficult access road meant a lot of time spent getting to and from it over 3 days of itinerary activities planned for us in the Sigiriya area. So trying to balance special accommodation with practicality of the activities planned within the itinerary could be improved at this one location. The itinerary should also give guidance on the entry fees to some of the major sites (such as Sigiriya Rock and Polonnaruwa) as they are relatively high for Sri Lanka so clients can be prepared...all worth it though. Otherwise, all else was good.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Nihal our driver was excellent. always helpful, informative, very friendly and great to have with us on our whole journey. The guides used at various locations for activities were all very good too

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Sri Lanka?

Places definitely to see are: Sigiriya Rock and climbing it; Minneriya National Park for the elephant gatherings, the Kandy to Ella train journey, Ella and Hill Country, Talalla Beach and Galle. Places to stay include Ella Flower Garden Hotel (for the views of Ella Rock and Ella Gap), Yala Lake Adventure Camp (glamping by the lake) with great food and host, Talalla Retreat (fantastic beach and lovely relaxed vibe with onsite yoga and spa)

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

The elephants evening gathering at Minneriya National Park (over 200) The Kandy to Ella Train journey - views of superb landscape Sigiriya Rock - views from the top Hiking around Ella The nature and wildlife The chilled ambience of Galle Talalla Beach - a great place to relax (don't tell too many people though)
