We had an amazing time in Namibia on a self drive tour - we drove 1500 miles but it was never dull. TravelLocal's partner in Windhoek did our itinerary for us and were always prompt, friendly and helpful. We stayed at7 different lodges and hotels - the Rostock Ritz was not great and the government camp, average but we knew to expect this. Everywhere else was perfect and the driving so beautiful.
They were always quick to come back to us with any questions or adjustments we wanted to make.
A cool box in the vehicles would be good. Check that the information given to us is complete and has all the extras noted + all vouchers. Otherwise - perfect!
They were very variable - the one in Mushara gave us no information unless we asked specific questions - we could have self driven! Everywhere else they were good.
Only one night at a government lodge in Etosha - arrive early and leave after breakfast just to do the waterhole - no food to speak of in the shop and the food in the canteen was terrible! Also - we are pretty certain that our tyre was let down overnight and then 4 men helped us repair it - it all seemed wrong as the car was parked at 4 the previous day and we checked it at 10pm when it was fine. Just a way to make money from us I suppose? Avoid Rostock Ritz - the only unfriendly place we stayed at and the food was not good and the rooms small and dark. I would suggest taking a picnic from Windhoek and doing the drive to Sossusvlei all in one go.
The driving and changing scenery - the 3 best lodges which were so perfect were Mushara, Mowani (so friendly and great food) and best of all Hoodia. The Namibian people were all so friendly (Except Rostock Ritz!!!)
