Planning and communication - very good. Timely, responsive although just occasionally I wished for a human voice. Guide - very knowledgeable and helpful. Learnt a lot about Morocco and its inhabitants. Seemed very genuine. Itinerary - certainly packed quite a lot into the 7 days we wanted to be away. We saw Marrakech, the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and the seaside town of Essaouira. Marrakech - fascinating - like a glimpse into the pre-industrialised Europe where people not things were important. Never felt threatened or hassled. Without exception people were warm and friendly. Hills and mountains are lush and fertile - worth visiting. Essaouira was a more modernised Maroc town overlaying an old Medina and fishing port. Its definitely worth a visit, although I suspect is losing its identity as the medina gets touristized and locals are forced out. Unfortunately the weather wasn't brilliant, in fact decidedly cold especially in the hills (May 2018) and the coast very breezy.
Guide and drivers were on time, helpful, relaxed and friendly.
i) Give information to travellers just before they arrive about weather conditions. The trip to Ourigane was really cold and I wished I had brought my winter clothes. The hotel Tatfi certainly did nothing to counteract this cold. Would recommend a close inspection of this hotel especially as they tried to charge us twice for the Guide's meals! I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Food was no more than average and not good value for the price. ii) Make it clear to travellers that there is quite a walk from where the taxi drops you outside the Medina in Marrakech to the hotel, and that you must carry/pull your baggage all the way. I found it quite scary walking down the long cobbled narrow 'street' within hours of alighting from the plane. A bit of advanced information would have been helpful.
The guide Rachid was excellent. He pulled suitcases, explained stuff, entertained and generally did all you could wish for in a guide. We were driven by a number of drivers all of whom were careful and courteous in their manner and driving. Well done to all of them.
Marrakech: The Secret Garden. This pool of calm was amazing whether you are interested in gardens or not. The information about how it was renovated was equally fascinating. The journey from Ourigane to Essaouira from mountain to coast. The geography and geology was stunning. The fish market in Essaouira.
The fact we managed to jinx the weather and it was colder in Morocco than in the UK! Seriously it was all interesting as it was so different to what we experience every day.
