La Aurora International Airport - Antigua Guatemala

Day 1: Welcome!

Upon your arrival into La Aurora International Airport, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel in Antigua, the famous colonial town in Guatemala. Check-in and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Intrepid volcano hike

Today, you'll set off at 7am on an adventure-fuelled overnight hike of Acatenango Volcano. Located just outside of Antigua and next to the active Volcán de Fuego, it offers incredible vistas - although do keep in mind that as it's a challenging excursion, a good fitness level is recommended.

Upon your arrival at your guide's house, you will first enjoy breakfast before kicking off your hike. By afternoon you'll reach the base camp, where you can warm up by the campfire and watch the mighty eruptions of the neighbouring volcano. At 4pm, an optional second hike can take you closer to the latter, for even more epic views. Settle down for the night at camp, and prepare for the second leg of your volcano hike the following morning.

Antigua Guatemala

Day 3: The hike up Acatenango continues

After an overnight stay at camp, hike to the top of Acatenango to enjoy the sunrise and marvellous 360-degree views. You'll return to Antigua by around 2pm, to spend the afternoon at leisure, either resting up or exploring the city at your own pace.

Day 4: Relax in a lakeside idyll

After breakfast, you'll be picked up at 8am for a transfer to Panajachel, a town on Lake Atitlan. If arriving on Thursday or Sunday, you can explore Chichicastenango Market and pick up one or two handicrafts to take home with you. Then you'll take a private boat to picturesque San Juan La Laguna, where you'll spend a night in an eco-hotel amidst a peaceful setting, complete with stellar lake views.

Panajachel

Day 5: Unforgettable views on a sunrise hike

Prepare for an early start this morning: you'll be picked up from your hotel at 4am and transferred to Santa Clara La Laguna, from where you'll set off on a sunrise hike to Rostro Maya - do note that this hike is of a medium difficulty level and is done in darkness, so a good fitness level is recommended.

Once you've reached the viewpoint and soaked up the enchanting views, you'll descend to San Pedro La Laguna with an estimated arrival time of 8.30am. At around 11am, you'll be picked up for a boat transfer back to Panajachel. Spend the rest of the day here at leisure, relaxing at your hotel or enjoying a bit of sightseeing.

Huehuetenango

Day 6: A rich landscape of green & blue

Today you'll have another early morning departure at around 5am, as you leave Panajachel for Huehuetenango. After a four-hour transfer, you'll reach a landscape filled with forests, rivers, lagoons and cenotes. Check into your hotel to rest, and at 10am, embark on your first tour of the day: a trip to the Olaverri viewpoint and Magdalena Lagoon, both breathtakingly beautiful attractions where you can enjoy the rich natural surroundings without reservations. Dotted with waterfalls and crystal-clear streams, the hike will be nothing if not unforgettable.

Huehuetenango

Day 7: Cenotes & sinkholes

Continue on your journey of discovery in scenic Huehuetenango: at 6am you'll be picked up to explore the Cenotes Candelaria, an extraordinary geological site in the Nenton region of Guatemala. The crystalline waters surrounded by limestone earth are perfect for a refreshing dive and swim. Next up on the itinerary is a five-hour drive to the Hoyo del Cimarron, the deepest sinkhole in Guatemala at about 200m deep and 170m wide. Finally, return to Huehuetenango to spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 8: Explore archaeological ruins

Before you leave Huehuetenango today, you'll enjoy an 8am tour of the Zaculeu archaeological site and Mammoth Museum, for one last fill of local history. At 2pm, you'll begin your seven-hour drive to Lanquin, right into the lush cloud forests and green hills and mountains of Guatemala.

Day 9: The striking landscapes of Semuc Champey

At 9am today, you'll begin a wonderful excursion into the heart of Semuc Champey National Park. Experience the beauty of its turquoise pools and small waterfalls, opt to explore the Kanba caves with the help of an experienced guide, and hike to a lookout point for fabulous views across the park. For a fun end to the day, try your hand at river tubing before returning to your accommodation.

Day 10: Journey to Lake Peten Itza

Today at 8am you'll travel for about eight hours to Flores, the colourful peninsula on Lake Peten Itza. The long journey is well worth it, as you'll be greeted by a beautifully unique setting and unforgettable lake views. Relax here and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 11: The Mayan ruins of Tikal

Get ready to visit one of the highlights of Guatemala: today at 7.30am, you'll begin your excursion to Tikal National Park. Following a 45-minute drive from Flores, you'll embark on a guided tour through this immense park filled with Mayan ruins. Your bilingual guide will deep-dive into the impressive history behind these ancient temples and complexes, before it's time to sit down for lunch in the park. Return to Flores in the afternoon, and spend your time at leisure, relaxing or enjoying some sightseeing.

Flores - Mundo Maya International Airport - La Aurora International Airport

Day 12: Goodbye Guatemala

Farewell, Guatemela! From your hotel you'll transfer to Mundo Maya International Airport in Flores. There you'll be dropped off for your return flight to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, followed by an onward flight home.
