Day 2: Tbilisi
Half day tour of Tbilisi - the city of hot springs
Excursion: Today, explore Georgia’s energetic capital, Tbilisi. Tread through the old districts of the city, twist around its narrow streets, and be mesmerised by the multicoloured houses, patterned balconies and varying examples of modern architecture. Begin the adventure at the 13th-century Metekhi church, perching proudly on a rocky bank that tumbles into the Mtkvari River.
From its elegant gardens, admire magnificent views of the old city and its rainbow-like buildings toppling above one another. As you wind your way along the little streets, you will come across the main sights of Tbilisi, such as the clock tower. This is considered one of the city’s most emblematic structures, built by puppet master Rezo Gabriadze. Marvel at its fairytale-like design. Continue to the bathing district, famous for Sulphur bathhouses and understand their history. The name T′bili or T′bilisi translates as ‘warm location’ and was given to the city because of the area's numerous sulphuric hot springs. Afterwards, gaze at panoramic views of the town´s glimmering lights from the 4th-century Narikala Fortress.

Private transfer from Gudauri to Tbilisi
Car Transfer: Transfer from Gudauri to Tbilisi.
Estimated travel time - 2 hours and 30 minutes
At leisure in Tbilisi
Excursion: With some time to spend how you wish, enjoy the winding streets of Tbilisi. Since the Rose Revolution of 2003 which ended Georgia's post-Soviet Shevardnadze government, Tbilisi has swiftly become an inviting and illuminating city to explore. Given the infrastructure of the city hasn't quite caught up yet, the best way to get around is a combination of metro and taxi. Most of the stations were built during the Soviet times; travelling around is like stepping back into yesteryear.
Alternatively, you could simply stroll amongst the endearing wooden houses in the historic neighbourhoods. Get off the beaten track and discover the district of merchants and artists, Sololaki, where you can admire faded frescoes and secret gardens. Recline in one of the copious sulphur baths in the Abanotubani district. On the way there, grab some Churchkhela from any local food stall: these are candle like sweetmeats made of walnuts or hazelnuts, covered in thickened grape juice. Whatever you choose to do today, Tbilisi offers something for every type of curious traveller. Our local experts are on hand with helpful advice to make your experience all the more memorable.
