Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa & cultural highlights

Arrive in Ethiopia’s lively capital, Addis Ababa, where your journey begins.

A warm welcome at Bole International Airport sets the tone before you transfer to your hotel to settle in. Once you're refreshed, explore the city’s rich cultural and historical heritage. See Lucy, the 3.6 million-year-old remains held at the National Archaeological Museum, then dive into Ethiopia’s diverse traditions at the Ethnological Museum, housed in the former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie. Continue to Holy Trinity Cathedral, an architectural gem and then end your first day with panoramic views of Addis Ababa from the peak of Mount Entoto.

Day 2: Scenic drive south

After breakfast, you'll embark on a journey southward through Ethiopia’s breathtaking landscapes.

Along the way, we'll stop for lunch and also call at the UNESCO-listed Tiya Megalithic Site, where intricately carved stone stelae mark a mysterious ancient burial ground. A short drive further leads you to the Adadi Mariam rock-hewn church, a masterpiece carved from volcanic rock and still a place of worship today.

Enjoy the breathtaking scenery as you approach Arba Minch, perfectly tucked between two Rift Valley lakes and providing a stunning backdrop as the day draws to a close. Check into your new hotel, then enjoy dinner and a good night's rest.

Chamo Lake - Dorze

Day 3: Lake safari & village visiting

Enjoy breakfast, then start your day with a boat safari on Lake Chamo, famed for its impressive Nile crocodiles basking on the shores and pods of hippos wallowing in the waters. Bird enthusiasts will also delight in spotting herons, storks and pelicans.

After lunch, you'll head on to Dorze Village in the Gamo Highlands. Here, you’ll discover the Dorze people’s iconic beehive-shaped huts, vibrant weaving traditions and sustainable farming practices. Surrounded by coffee plantations and towering false banana trees, this visit offers a captivating glimpse into rural Ethiopian life.

Later, head back to your hotel in Arba Minch for dinner and relaxation.

Arba Minch - Karat, Konso - Turmi

Day 4: Konso culture

Leave Arba Minch after breakfast and set off for Konso, a UNESCO-recognised cultural landscape known for its terraced fields and fortified hilltop villages.

Explore the Konso people’s unique traditions, including their sacred wagas (wooden statues) that honour heroic ancestors. If it’s market day, stop at the bustling Demeka market, where the Hamer and Benna tribes come together to trade colourful goods.

As the sun sets, arrive in Turmi, a vibrant hub in the Omo Valley. Settle into your accommodation and get ready for dinner and an evening at leisure.

Turmi - Omorate

Day 5: Discover Dassanech & Hamer cultures

You'll be making the trip to Omorate after breakfast, a town near the Kenyan border, where you’ll cross the Omo River by dugout canoe to visit the Dassanech people.

This semi-nomadic tribe thrives in one of Ethiopia’s most remote regions, blending ancient customs with daily resourcefulness.

After your visit, return to Turmi for lunch before exploring a Hamer village. Renowned for their intricate hairstyles and traditional ceremonies, the Hamer people offer a fascinating window into Omo Valley life. If you get the chance, make sure to witness the remarkable bull-jumping ceremony, a rite of passage for young Hamer men.

Later in the day, head back to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Turmi - Jinka

Day 6: Meet the Ari & Benna tribes

Journey deeper into the Omo Valley after breakfast this morning, with a visit to the Ari and Benna tribes.

You'll stop in an Ari village to learn about their vibrant culture, from pottery and weaving to coffee cultivation. Depending on the day you arrive, you might experience the lively Key Afer market, where the Ari, Benna and Tsemay tribes gather to trade everything from handmade crafts to fresh produce. These encounters provide an authentic glimpse into the rich tapestry of the Omo Valley’s communities.

Later in the day, check into your new accommodation, enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the evening reflecting on the day's adventure.

Jinka - Mago National Park - Arba Minch

Day 7: Mago National Park & Mursi tribe

After this morning's breakfast you'll venture into Mago National Park to meet the Mursi people, one of the Omo Valley’s most distinctive tribes.

Renowned for the striking clay lip plates worn by the women, the Mursi are proud custodians of their traditions. Learn about their way of life and unique adornments during a village visit.

After this unforgettable experience, make your way back to Arba Minch, arriving late in the evening.
