Wonderful trip

We chose this holiday as a mix of culture, history and wildlife, with an enthesis on being environmentally friendly and that is exactly what we got! Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and we loved the diversity that it offered. We feel that we got a true representation of the country and explored the rich culture and history, while enjoying the deep connection to the landscape around them. We started off in Negombo, with a brief taste of city life, then travel to Wilpattu to see a jungle paradise (including Loris spotting). We then went into the cultural triangle to explore the history, a brief jaunt to Sigiriya and then down to Kandy for a brief trip and then a picturesque train journey through tea country to Ella which was situated among beautiful misty mountains. Next stop was a safari in Yala before heading down to Galle and Mirissa for whale watching.

What was good about our local partner in Sri Lanka?

Manoj, our driver and guide was excellent. All the hotels we stayed at were excellent.

What could our local partner in Sri Lanka improve on?

The only problem I saw was that although it was meant to be an eco holiday, we used an insane amount of plastic bottles for water. I understand this is a difficult hurdle as tap water is not suitable but perhaps some effort could be made to have a large canister of filtered water in the vehicle which we could syphon off into reusable bottles.

What did you think about the guides or drivers on your trip?

Manoj was excellent and extremely knowledgeable. He was also invaluable when my partners wallet was stolen as he helped it get reported to the police.

What advice would you give to other travellers planning a trip to Sri Lanka?

Lipton seat was a bit over rated, perhaps maybe do something else while in Ella. Put on lots of sun cream and drink lots of water! Also knowing what to tip is hard so seek advice from your driver.

What was the most memorable part of your trip?

All of it was wonderful but spotting a loris and Sigiriya were the most memorable.
