Egypt International Sand Boarding Competition
This is it. The event where you'll find more Dune lovers than a science fiction convention. From the 1st to the 5th of May, there will be no shortage of Slalom and Big Air thrills at this massive international sandboarding spectacular.
Egyptian daredevils have always looked at extreme sports such as skiing and snowboarding with admiration and, truth be known, a little envy deep down inside for being so far away from those cold white slopes. Over the past few years, however, this has all changed. Sandboarding, rumoured to have been enjoyed by those inventive, fun-loving ancient Egyptians when they took to the golden dunes on bits of wood or pottery, has returned to the Sahara Desert.
Egypt is home to some of the world's best sandboarding destinations; such as the white-desert Qattaniya dunes, Carwin Dunes, and the Almuaraq Dunes. Who needs snow when you've got pristine sand every day of the year?

Cairo
Day 1: Welcome to Eygpt!
You've made it to the aiport in Cairo! Here, you'll be met and assisted with your transfer to your comfortable Cairo hotel, in which you'll be able to relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure awaiting you in the desert.

Day 2: Sandboarding first round: Qattania dunes
After a hearty breakfast, it's off for your two days in the desert and, of course, its inviting dunes. Your first stop will be at Qattania dunes, about 90 km away from Cairo, where the first round of slalom sandboarding will be held. After this first taste of sand and adrenalin, dig into a energizing picnic for lunch, to give you fuel for more thrills and spills until sunset. After which, relax in your beautiful Bahriya oasis hotel for a leisurely and generous dinner, before a deep, luxurious sleep.

Day 3: Sandboarding: Carwin dunes
After an adrenalin-pumping breakfast, check out from the hotel in order to check out Carwin dunes - some of the best dunes anywhere in the world - where the second round, Big Air, takes off.
When noon rolls around, so does another sumptuous picnic, and then get as much air off the dunes as you can til dusk. Next, head off by 4x4 jeep to marvel at the Black and White Deserts, as well as the western desert's great wonders, in which camp will be set for a night under the infinite stars.
This is no ordinary camp, though, because here you will experience all the excitement of a real Bedouin night in real Bedouin tents, eating a real Bedouin barbeque dinner, while sharing in real Bedouin songs and dance. After all this revelry, get a real good night's sleep in your separate tents.

Day 4: Last Round: Elmaharak dunes
After an exquisite tent-side breakfast, it's time to drive right into the heart of the White Desert in your 4x4 jeep. The places you're about to see have no equal anywhere in the world, so taking your camera along might be a pretty good idea. After some happy snapping, it's time for some happy slaloming: today is the last round of this particular form of thrill-seeking. This is where a legend will be born: the most outsanding sandboarder will be the envy of all, especially after receiving the Cup, and a cool US$1000. Following the emotional and historic presentation, it's back to Cairo for a celebratory dinner, followed by a decidedly well-earnt celebratory sleep in luxury.

Cairo - Giza - Sakkara - Cairo
Day 5: Giza pyramids, Sakkara, Memphis
A full-on hotel breakfast will be followed by a full-on, full-day tour. In the morning you will be taken to Sakkara to see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, which happens to be the very first pyramid ever built. You will then be able to marvel at the enigmatic texts inside the Teti Pyramid, before heading off to Memphis, Egypt's ancient capital. The Colossus of Ramses II dominates the museum here; you better not have forgotten your camera! A camera-friendly lunch (chicken or beef) at a splendid local restaurant will follow.
After such sating of the belly, some sating of your love of pyramids follows, as you witness first-hand the awe-inspiring Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx: the most famous monuments of not only ancient Egypt, but of the entire world, somehow constructed millenia ago on their rocky desert plateau. After the jaw-dropping visit, you will be taken to the Papyrus Institute to learn how the ancient Egyptians made the world's first kind of paper. Have a go at making it yourself, and take the opportunity to gawk at some fantastic examples of papyrus art.
After this amazing trip through Egypt's pharaonic past you will be driven back to your pharaonic hotel.

Cairo
Day 6: Cairo and Museum, Bazaars, Citadel
A deliciosly filling breakfast at the hotel is followed by another full day tour, but this time you'll spend the morning at the Egyptian Museum. Gaze at the wonders of King Tutankhamen, including his golden death mask; come face-to-face with the mummies of some of Egypt's ancient pharaohs (optional); lose yourself in the many rooms and galleries where thousands of preciously important artefacts are awaiting your visit.
After your mix-grill lunch at a wonder of a local restaurant, you'll be taken on a tour of Cairo's most famous churches, including: The Hanging Church and the Church of St. George the Martyr, that were built right into the walls of the Fort of Babylon, and could well be Cairo's oldest structures; as well as the Church of Abu Serga (St. Sergius), where, it is said, the Holy Family took shelter in a cave. This whole area is a world-famous destination for Pilgrims. And if that wasn't enough, next visit the citadel of Salah Eldin that was built 1167 A.D; and the Alabaster mosque of Muhamed Ali, the number one icon of Islamic Cairo, built in 1805. You'll probably be a bit peckish after such a mammoth day. Lucky there's a magnificent dinner planned.

Cairo - Onward
Day 7: Final Departure
After one last amazing breakfast, check out and be guided to the airport for your final departure. An aiport representative will be ready to help you with your check-in and other needs, in case you start to feel a bit teary about leaving this astounding country. Don't be too sad: Egypt's not going anywhere, so why not come back?
