Having not really travelled much before, this was both the furthest I've been from home, and at 2 weeks. the longest holiday I've had, and what a holiday it was. Travel Local put me in touch with an agent in Costa Rica who took time corresponding with me to get an idea what I wanted to do and the sorts of accomodation I wanted to stay in and then they arranged everything, including all my transfers. I found this a really good way of organising things, especially as I'm not an experience traveller and was travelling alone. When I arrive in Costa Rica the rep met me at my hotel to review my itinerary with me and make suggestions as to what else I could do whilst there - although with my full itinerary there wasn't much space for anything extra! Travelling at the end of January/eary Feb the weather was hot and sunny throughout. After spending some time in the capital I spent the rest of the time travelling round to see different parts of the country starting at Tortuguero, then moving west through Fortuna where the Arenal Volcano is, then Monteverde Cloud Forest before going to the pacific coast. It was worthwhile visiting Santa Teresa and also going on to Manuel Antonio as although they both have lovely beaches, they are quite different and it gives you the chance to see different things. In terms of the activities that I did whilst there, they were all really good. Particular highlights included a horseback ride and waterfall trek in Fortuna, the Kinkajou night walk in Monteverde, kayaking (both prearranged via the rep at Arenal lake and impromptu session on the beach), trekking in Manuel Antonio National Park and Don Juan 3 in 1 coffee tour (coffee, chocolate and sugar cane). There are a number of places and different companies where you can go zip lining. I went in Monteverde with Sky Adventures. I don't like heights so not sure why I booked this but I was glad that I did it. For this activity I borrowed a GoPro camera from Sky Adventures. It was free to borrow and then you can view the videos before deciding whether or not you want to buy them. I bought them as I wanted some evidence that I'd done it! Overall a fabulous trip, well organised by my Costa Rican agent via travel local with good communication throughout. Would thoroughly recommend both the country (for it's friendly people, great activities, sunny weather, diverse landscapes and amazing wildlife) and travel local.
Could have done with some extra leg room on some of the longer road journeys but overall an excellent service with good communication.
Friendly, polite and able to communicate effectively.
Do it, it's amazing.
All of it was great
