Detailed Itinerary

Reykjavik - Geysir - Gullfoss
Day 1: Tour the Golden Circle
Today you'll pick up your rental car, either at the airport or in Reykjavik, depending on your schedule. You can then hit the road and begin your adventure.
The Golden Circle is Iceland's most famous sightseeing route and it is not to be missed. This trio of incredible sights are Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir Geothermal Area and Gullfoss Waterfall. Thingvellir, a historically significant site, is located in the rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. The highlight of the Geysir Geothermal Area is the Strokkur Geyser, which erupts 30m up into the air every 10 minutes or so. Finally, Gullfoss, the golden falls, is one of Iceland's most stunning waterfalls. You'll see all three of these sights in one packed day. Then it's time to check into your hotel and unwind for a free evening.

Seljalandsfoss - Skogafoss - Reynisfjara
Day 2: Waterfalls & black-sand beaches
After breakfast this morning, you'll discover the scenic south coast, home to many of Iceland's most beautiful sights. As you drive, you’ll take in stunning views of world-famous glaciers and volcanoes dotted across this mesmerising land.
Stop off at Seljalandsfoss, a unique waterfall that has a path running behind it. Picture-perfect Skogafoss Waterfall is another must-see and the cascade here is often accompanied by dancing rainbows. Further east, the black-sand beaches of Reynisfjara offer fantastic views of the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and the Dyrholaey Cliff.
Your home for the night is in Kirkjubæjarklaustur: check in to your hotel and drink in the magnificent surroundings.

Day 3: Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then head out into the sublime landscapes of southeast Iceland, dominated by Vatnajokull – Europe’s largest glacier. Tucked between its glacier tongues is the beautiful Skaftafell Nature Reserve with its variety of hiking options. As part of today's itinerary, you'll also visit the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, the most famous in Iceland, dotted with icebergs that flow out to the sea and are then washed up on the gorgeous Diamond Beach.
With several less-visited glacier lagoons, the ancient Fjadrargljufur canyon and charming towns of southeast Iceland are sure to impress. If your visit is during the winter you could try glacier hiking or visit an ice cave, while in summer, boat trips across the lagoon are a great option.
End the day by relaxing at your new hotel in the heart of Vatnajokull.

The drive around the lake takes you through the largest forest in Iceland and hikers can take a short hike up to the Hengifoss Waterfall if they like. The Studlagil Canyon features some of the most impressive basalt column formations in Iceland and is very much worth a stop. Meanwhile, the remote Vesturdalur Valley features fascinating geological wonders, such as basalt formations and the colorful Raudholar Hills. The horseshoe-shaped Asbyrgi is perfect for a serene forest walk. From there, the route heads to the northern coast to the fishing village of Husavik, known as the whale-watching capital of Iceland.

A detour into the Borgarfjordur area will take you to the lovely Hraunfossar and Barnafoss Waterfalls.
Along the drive, stop to visit the village of Reykholt – a place steeped in saga history, home to a medieval centre and the oldest hot spring in Iceland. Hiking enthusiasts should also take the road to the Hvalfjordur Fjord for an exhilarating hike along the canyon to see the 198m tall Glymur Waterfall.
The evening is free to spend as you please at your new hotel.
