Arrival at Dinaka Camp

Day 1: Arrival at Dinaka Camp

Arrive at Dinaka, an exclusive private reserve hugging the northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Dinaka is host to one of the most unique biodiversities in Southern Africa. This ever-changing desert landscape is home to the Kalahari lion, springbok, Oryx and brown hyena. Guests at the camp are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents, each with en-suite bathrooms with full facilities. Dinaka’s tents are well-spaced and raised up on wooden decks giving the perfect vantage point over a permanent water hole. The Sleep Out Deck offers guests a panoramic view and the opportunity to spend the night under the magnificent African night sky.

Day 2: The African Bush

This region offers an authentic African bush experience featuring remarkable desert landscapes inhabited by a wide range of desert-adapted wildlife, including gemsbok, springbok, giraffes, and ostriches, to name a few. During your stay you’ll be able to experience the diverse wildlife in all sorts of ways, on safaris, night tours and nature walks with expert guides. Don’t miss the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the rare black-maned Kalahari lions. In between, you can relax at your luxury lodge and enjoy delicious freshly-prepared meals.

Day 3: Photography Safari

Situated alongside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the focus of activities at Dinaka is on fully experiencing the wildlife of the Kalahari. Visitors will get to see a huge range of mammals, including giraffes, antelope, small mammals like the honey badger, bat-eared fox and porcupine to predators including the Kalahari lion, cheetah, leopard and brown hyena. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives conducted by professional guides in specially-designed open safari vehicles allowing unhindered game viewing and photography.

Day 4: Wildlife & Cultural Tours

Birding is also particularly spectacular here at Dinaka as the area hosts over 200 different bird species. These include the Kori Bustard and Crimson Breasted Shrike and a high concentration of Pale Chanting Goshawks. The region is also home to an interesting blend of cultures, including the Bakgalagadi, the original inhabitants, the Herero, the San, the Batawana, and the Afrikaners. Visitors can explore local villages and learn about the traditional way of life of the Kalahari hunter-gatherers. San Bushman guides conduct educational walks throughout the day, offering you an insight into this ancient culture, their survival techniques and their historical way of life.

Journey to the Delta

Day 5: Journey to the Delta

Today you’ll travel to the Okavango Delta, a World Heritage Site and the largest inland delta in the world. The magnificent Okavango River sprawls out over the dry sands of the Kalahari Desert forming this flourishing waterlogged oasis featuring meandering waterways and crystal clear lagoons studded with water lilies. Around it stretch fertile floodplains and reed islands inhabited by abundant wildlife. At the camp, guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded safari tents with en-suite bathrooms.

Day 6: In Search of Elephants

The Okavango Delta stretches over 15,000 square kilometres. Visitors can enjoy a number of wonderful activities, such as game viewing, fishing, bird watching or taking a guided Mokoro excursion through this wetland paradise in a traditional dugout canoe. Commonly spotted animals include lions, rhinos, leopards, giraffes, hippos, elephants, crocodiles and countless species of birds.

Day 7: Wildlife on the Waterways

A hidden jewel on the Xudum River, Kanana is located to the southwest of the Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals. The nature of the habitat means it is the perfect place to experience the diversity of species found within the Okavango Delta. Guests can enjoy game drives with a professional guide in specially-designed vehicles that allow unhindered game viewing and photography.

Day 8: Exploring the Delta

Explore the Okavango Deltaʼs crystal clear waterways by motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy motorboat trips to some of the Okavango Deltaʼs best fishing spots, for a chance to experience the beautiful surroundings before landing a variety of species such as tilapia and tiger fish, African pike and sharp tooth catfish.

Day 9: A Kaleidoscope of Birds

Mokoro boat trips offer the chance to experience the incredible bird, plant and reptile species found in the aquatic habitat of the Okavango Delta. You could see sitatunga, fish eagles, painted reed frogs and malachite kingfishers. Climb aboard a Mokoro with your ʻpolerʼ and enjoy exploring the Okavango Deltaʼs tranquil waterways. After dinner, you might like to take a night drive offering the opportunity of seeing the nocturnal inhabitants of the area.
