It was everything we wanted and more. The drivers were all professionals (no scary bits), the guide was knowledgeable about all subjects raised (history, politics, culture, botany, birds, animals, etc.). The accommodations were fine. The suggested itinerary was just what we wanted. The staff who worked with us to arrange the trip were pleasant and knowledgeable. Almost all good.
The drivers were excellent. The guide (Fabio) was excellent.
1. The Gamboa resort is in decline. I don't know if there are any alternatives, but it is not being maintained very well. Also they had no hikes or tours that you didn't have to pay for. 2. We were supposed to be picked up at the hotel for our flight home. No one came. We called the emergency number and were told that the driver was sick. If they knew that, they should have sent someone else, instead of having us worried if we would make the flight. Poor communication within the company. They had our hotel get us a cab.
Nothing I haven't said above. The guide (Fabio) knew a great deal about a range of subjects. He was a pleasure to be with for the 8 days we were there. It is risky being tied to a guide for that long - what if you don't like them? This worked out perfectly.
We had great meals in Panama City (all recommended by our guide). They have a variety of cuisines there. It's not worth staying an extra, unguided day at Gamboa. There's not enough to do and the food is not very good and expensive.
The trip to the indigenous village.
