We planned a "last minute" trip to tour Colombia for 18 days. Without knowing much about the country or it's highlights, we relied heavily on our TravelLocal agent, Jose for an itinerary which included hotels, transport, tours and guides. He was extremely helpful and flexible with planning. We were very happy with the ongoing communication, not only in the planning phase but also when we arrived in the country. He even checked in with us, part way through the trip, to ensure eveything was proceding according to our expectations. Everything went without a hitch. The hotels were superb, drivers and vehicles excellent and always on time. Guides were very attentive and flexible with a very good command of English. We are very happy with the service provided by TravelLocal and would definitely use their service again. We would highly recommend TravelLocal and their Colombian partner to other travelers. Thank you for a great holiday!
Communication with us in the planning phase and during our journey was excellent. Jose responded immediately to every question we had and was very flexible in changing plans based on our interests. He was accessible in case of any issues we may have had. This was very reassuring for us. He even checked in on us during our excusion to ensure all was going well. The hotels chosen for us were excellent. The drivers were always early or on time. The guides were excellent (e.g. Brian waited with us for 2 hours at the airport in Armenia to ensure that our flight to Medellin was not cancelled. Our guide in Medellin, Daniel, was delightful and even helped me climb up the Penol rock!). Please give our sincere "Thanks" to Jose and his team for all of their efforts.
Our hotel costs included breakfasts and at least on 2 occaisions, we needed to leave the hotel before 6:00 a.m. and, of course, did not receive breakfast. Could some fine tuning be done to adjust the for paid meals that were not provided?
Please see above. All vehicles were new and well maintained. Overall, the drivers were very skilled and careful.
1. Spend at least 3 full days in Medellin, Cartagena and Bogota. The cities are very interesting, lots to see and do. Great restaurants and shopping. 2. Expect a lot of "down time" in Encanto, Bambusa and Tayrona. Encanta was essentially a beach resort. There is not much to do in Bambusa and Tayrona if it rains a lot. Excursions and hiking in the rain are not pleasant and sometimes (especially in Tayrona) can be treacherous. 3. Santa Marta does not seem to have a lot to offer in terms of tourism. It was noisy, crowded and dirty.
The tour of Medellin District 13, cable car and visit to Guatape were all superb! The walled city in Cartagena was lovely (especially when the cruise ships departed). Bogota was a very pleasant surprise with lots of great restaurants and shopping.
