I went to Jordan with my 19 year old grandson , we had a wonderful time, every thing was planned brilliantly, but still felt independent . Our guide/driver, Kefah was brilliant, so informative and friendly, such a lovely person. The sites were amazing, sleeping in a tent in the desert , seeing the sun rise and sun set and Petra were the highlights, but the whole trip was very interesting, I would definitely recommend using travel local .
Every thing, Kefah was a brilliant guide, all the plans you made for us were superb, from being met at the air port with the visa’s all sorted to the wonderful hotel on the last night, and it was their outdoor barbecue night, amazing. The hotel at Petra gave us a double bedded room, but changed it very quickly with no fuss at all, a porter sorted it for me at reception.
We were advised to take US Dollars, as the exchange rate was better, well it was for us but not for the locals, I did take some local currency luckily and got some more at a cash point, I would rather the locals got the best deal.
Oh yes, such a lovely person, so friendly and informative, he definitely added to our holiday, if I came again I would definitely want Kefah as my guide, it wouldn’t be the same with someone else, a credit to your country .
Take local currency, be respectful to your culture, chat to everyone, as they are all so friendly, be prepared to tip much more than in the UK , but it’s worth it, £5 per person seemed to be the norm but you get used to it, oh and souvenirs are more expensive than some countries i’v been to but it’s fun bartering, don’t be afraid to do it if you haven’t before, it’s expected. Take a fleece for the desert, and scarf.
Petra was the main reason I wanted to come, and it was wonderful, but I think for both of us the desert camp overnight stay was the best, especially out in the desert at 5.30am just us two and the Bedouin camel man , with the camels, the silence was incredible .
