Ilulissat

Day 1: Say Hello to Ilulissat

Upon arriving at Ilulissat this morning, you'll be transferred to your guesthouse, your cozy and comfortable accommodation for the duration of your stay.

Later in the day, you'll meet your guide for an introductory cultural walk to get an experience of the magic of Ilulissat, its story, highlights, and traditions. Your experienced guide will show you the most important sites of this charming little colorful town located next to the UNESCO Ilulissat Icefjord. You'll learn of its history and culture as well as some of the meeting points, great places to dine or find local art and souvenirs.

Your first evening will be free, so you can relax and get acquainted with the town and with Greenland.

If you love kayaking, there's the option to join a kayak tour in the bay among the icebergs, a tour which can be arranged to see the sunset on the Arctic horizon.

Ilulissat - Eqi Sermia Glacier

Day 2: Sail through Majestic Fjords

Prepare for the highlight adventure of your trip starts, a boat trip to Eqi Sermia, also called “the calving glacier”, which lies 80 kilometers north of Ilulissat. It calves very often, enabling most visitors to experience both the sound and sight of this fantastic natural scenery.

You will sail along a route north along the coast passing Bredebugt, the settlement of Oqaatsut, and the big fiord system called Pakitsoq, where whales and seals often are seen and further on through the Ataa Strait, which is surrounded by steep mountains with birdlife and waterfalls.

We'll then head back to Ilulissat in the late afternoon where a relaxed sauna experience with a view over the icebergs of Disko Bay will be waiting.

Ilulissat - Ilimanaq

Day 3: Explore the Illimanaq Settlement

This morning, you'll transfer by boat to the Illimanaq settlement for a day trip to one of the most beautiful settlements of West Greenland. Ilimanaq is only 7kms away from Ilulissat but it feels as if you've stepped foot on a completely different planet.

Once at the settlement, you'll join a guided walking tour exploring beautiful colonial-era buildings and their trout farms, caught in Tasiusaq behind the settlement. 

After lunch at Restaurant Egede, one of the best in the country, you'll have free time to hike around, before taking the boat back to Ilulissat and have a free evening in town.

If you'd like, there is also the option to visit an abandoned settlement with its forgotten ghost houses, many of them still standing untouched from a long-forgotten era in Greenlandic history.

Ilulissat - Diskobay

Day 4: Experience the Inuit Way of Life

The morning will start with a visit to an Inuit family where you will join in on a kaffemik ritual, hear stories of ancient traditions and discover more about this old and unknown human world.

Kaffemik is a gathering to celebrate any kind of event that includes lots of food, especially cakes and pastries, coffee, and tons of great stories to hear and share. It is a wonderful opportunity to get a real insight into Greenlandic life. 

After spending some time with the locals, you'll get to meet their beautiful husky puppies that, in this period of the year, are growing up to be ready for winter. You'll feed them and learn of their importance in the Inuit community.

In the evening, you'll have a final goodbye experience on a sunset boat tour among the icebergs. The bay outside Ilulissat is stunning at sunset and will leave you an impression destined to last for a lifetime.

Day 5: Say Goodbye to Greenland

After a comfortable night's sleep and delicious breakfast, feel free to spend this morning at your own pace and leisure, enjoying everything that this quaint town has to offer.

Depending on when your flight is, you may need to head straight to the airport via our shuttle bus service.
