Upon your arrival in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Spend a leisurely afternoon after your travel day to acclimatize to the altitude. The city lies approximately 8,660 feet above sea level, and your first day will allow you to get used to the elevation. 

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner to get acquainted with the Colombian cuisine and its flavors before retiring for the night.

Begin your day with a walking tour of Bogotá. Here, you will explore the city’s historic center with its colorful colonial buildings, and the Plaza de Boliver, among other sights.

Of course, you'll also see some of Bogotá's architectural highlights such as the city hall, the houses of congress, the supreme court, and the venerable Catedral Primada.

Next, take a cable car or funicular to the top of the Monserrate Hill for stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains.

History lovers might want to visit the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro), one of the world’s largest collections of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts. There are a number of museums to appeal to a range of interests.

Today is the day coffee lovers have been waiting for! Board a domestic flight to Salento, a charming town in the heart of Colombia’s Coffee Triangle.

Having reached your destination, wander through Salento’s colorful streets and enjoy its colonial style architecture before heading to a local coffee farm. On this tour you'll learn about coffee cultivation from bean to cup. Of course, you can look forward to coffee tastings to round off the experience.

Later, explore the Calle Real with its artisan shops selling handmade goods, such as coffee, jewelry, and textiles - all of which make perfect souvenirs from your travels. 

If you like, we can arrange an optional dinner at a local restaurant where you can try regional specialties like trucha (trout).

Tonight, you'll remain in Salento over night.

Today's day trip takes you to Cocora Valley, which is famous for its towering wax palm trees. These are, in fact, the tallest in the world. Hike the trails through the valley, passing lush forests, rivers, and stunning landscapes. Enjoy the views as you explore Colombia's natural beauty.

Afterwards, visit a local coffee farm for a tour to learn about coffee cultivation, and enjoy a coffee tasting before your return to Salento.

In the morning, take a flight from Armenia or Pereira to Medellín. Upon your arrival, check into your hotel and relax after your flight until the afternoon when you'll pay a visit to Comuna 13.

This once violent area has been transformed into one of the most vibrant, artistic neighborhoods in the city. Take your time to explore its colorful street art and murals. Listen to the inspiring story of how the community overcame its challenges for a deeper glimpse into Colombia's history.

Return to your hotel and spend the night in Medellín.

Your day starts early with a morning drive to Guatapé. Take a day trip to this colorful town that's famous for its vibrant murals and stunning views.

Climb the 708 steps to the top of El Peñol Rock for breathtaking views of the lakes and surrounding mountains. The rock is 656 feet tall and has a viewing platform on the top where local vendors sell their wares.

Then, enjoy a scenic boat ride on Guatapé Reservoir with views of lush hills and islands before lunch. A typical Paisa meal awaits you in one of the local lakeside restaurants. The variety of food allows you to experience many characteristic flavors of the region. 

Finally, return to Medellín in the evening.

In the morning, a 1.5-hour domestic flights will take you from Medellín to Cartagena. Upon arrival, your transfer will bring you to your hotel for check in. Afterwards, head out to explore the town.

Walk along the city’s old city walls, enjoying views of the Caribbean Sea. Don't miss out on exploring Getsemaní, a vibrant neighborhood known for its street art, local cafes, and lively atmosphere.

In the evening, enjoy and optional dinner in one of Cartagena’s excellent seafood restaurants, savoring fresh fish and ceviche before retiring to your hotel in the city.

After your breakfast, join a walking tour of Cartagena's historic old town. As you wander through the Caribbean streets, you'll feel as if you've gone back to the 16th century. The city's colours and typical architecture evoke a sense of history and a vibrant atmosphere you'll remember for years to come.

As part of your tour, visit famous colonial buildings like the monastery of San Pedro Claver and the Basilica Minor Cathedral. Following this tour, visit the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, a massive fortress overlooking the city.

In the evening, join the locals and enjoy Cartagena’s nightlife.

Tag 9: Pristine islands or cleansing mud baths

You'll be spoiled for choice today: choose between the following two experiences based on your interests.

Option 1: Boat tour to the Rosario Islands. Explore the pristine islands off Cartagena’s coast where you have the chance to go snorkeling or relax on the beach. Enjoy a beach day and soak up the sun - a nice change from your active days exploring Colombia's cities. 

Option 2: Mangrove and mud volcano tour (8 hours). Hop on a canoe with a fisherman to explore the Cartagena Mangroves and learn about the local community. After lunch, head to the mud volcano Totumo for a restorative mud bath. Finally, end the tour with a swim in the tropical waters of Manzanillo del Mar.

If time allows, head out for a rum tasting in the Getsemaní district in the evening before returning to your hotel in Cartagena.
