I contacted Travel Local just one week before we were due to leave. I had never used them before but had heard about them from various sources. Generally, when I travel I organise everything on my own, but this time just didn't have enough time to do the research. From my first contact with Travel Local, everything ran perfectly smoothly. Nutan from the local tour operator was extremely reactive and very quick to respond to my emails and suggestions concerning the itinerary. She gave us good advice right from the start, organising all the visits and guides and hotels etc. Everyone we met from the representative at Delhi airport, through to our driver who ferried us around tirelessly from day 1 to day 9 including all the guides were wonderful. The guides were particularly knowledgable and very keen to answer our questions concerning Indian traditions and lifestyle today. The only thing I would say is that we would have liked to have more options concerning hotels. I accepted Nutan's propositions as we didn't have that much time before leaving and at one point during the trip I took it upon myself to change hotels in order to have two days in really top accommodation in order to experience something different. This obviously cost me extra but I didn't mind. It gave us the opportunity to discover Indian hospitality at its best. All in all a wonderful trip. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Travel Local for our subsequent trips wherever they may be. I would also like to give a very positive review to the Travel Local team in the UK who were very patient and understanding when there was a small issue with my credit card for payment. We were able to sort the problem calmly and smoothly and given the short deadlines involved I found this extremely reassuring. Thanks to all of you for a fabulous trip.
They bent over backwards to make sure that our trip went well. Everyone connected to the local tour operator did everything in their power to make sure we had a good time. Extremely polite, very open to suggestion, totally reactive to changes we wanted to make, nothing was too much. All the guides were knowledgeable and interesting and made sure we were happy and safe at all times.
The only thing, as mentioned before, would be to give more choice in terms of hotel category. Perhaps to offer one simple/basic hotel offering and besides this another higher category offering. The only visit which was not interesting was the boat ride on Lake Pichola in Udaipur.
All were perfect.
Make sure you know what category of hotel you are signing up for. Driving distances are often longer than mentionned in the itinerary so make sure that not too much else is planned for these days in terms of visits otherwise it gets a bit tiring.
The Taj Mahal (perfectly breathtaking despite the thousands of people who were there at the same time as us), the cinema in Jaipur (we watched a wonderful Indian film and although we did not understand the language we understood the jist of the film perfectly which gave us a lot of information about modern day living in India), the market visits in Delhi (although this can be a bit overwhelming particularly for children), the cooking demonstration and meal with Merakshee in Jodhpur.
