Trip Tips – The Taj Mahal

|

The Taj Mahal may be the world’s greatest monument to love, but Agra, where the Taj is found, is certainly not the greatest monument to India. Hotels are overpriced and lacking in charm, touts and shopkeepers are at their rudest and most persistent. And yet… the Taj is certainly a sight to behold and well worth seeing. So how to tackle it? Here’s our recommended options:

  1. Travel from Delhi to Agra in the morning. In the afternoon see the Taj, then escape and spend the night in the countryside – we know several places within an hour’s drive from Agra.
  2. Just spend one night in Agra – see the Taj, visit Agra Fort and perhaps have a walking tour of the city.
  3. Treat yourself to a night or two at Amar Vilas. It is very expensive – but each room has a view of the Taj, and it’s a hotel you’ll remember.
