Cost

from £920 pp

(ex international flights)

Duration

14 days

This tour takes you from the bustle and appeal of Cape Town to the winelands and through to some of the most popular spots on the Garden Route. As soon as you leave the city boundaries, you will be staying in fantastic glamping accommodation where you can most appreciate the natural wonders of South Africa whilst sleeping in comfort and remaining close to the highlights of the area. Start your trip in Cape Town - with its rich culture, bustling cosmopolitan nightlife, world-class beaches, top-notch vineyards, and its mountainous surroundings brimming with diverse flora and fauna, it consistently captivates the hearts of all who visit. Next you move on to the Breede River Valley which is home to some of South Africa's greatest wine producing areas. This picturesque valley is peppered with a handful of quaint farming towns. It falls along the incredibly popular Route 62, which is said to be one of the longest wine routes in the world. After a couple of nights in Robertson you move further along the route to Oudtshoorn - the ostrich capital of the world - surrounded by farms, and the golden, arid landscape of the Karoo (home to ever-popular meerkats). Time to head to the coast for some ocean air and visit Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Wilderness. All three are situated on the famously beautiful Garden Route. There are ample activities available for enjoying the area - swim in the sea, hike along the rivers and through the forests and enjoy spotting the wonderful birdlife. Your final stop is Wellington in the scenic Western Cape Winelands. The viticulture here dates back to the time of the French Huguenots of the late 1600s, although the Wellington Wine Route is one of the youngest - launched in the mid 1990s. The wine route is small and cellars are easy driving distance from one another. This round trip brings you back to Cape Town with a new appreciation for the spectacular scenery and wines of this area of South Africa.
