Desert camp in Wahiba The ripples of the Omani desert at Wahiba sands are an arresting sight. Some dunes rise to around 100m, artistically sculpted by the wind into classic desert landscapes, particularly photogenic in the low light of sunrise or sunset. There are many ways to make the most of your proximity to the desert. Consider an overnight stay at a desert camp deep in the dunes, where you will experience the unforgettable quiet and solitude of the desert at night, as well as an incredible view of the night sky. Camps usually offer a range of options for accommodation so you can camp in luxurious style or get back to nature with a more traditional experience. A multitude of exciting desert based activities can also be organised while you are out in the wilderness, for example dune bashing, camel treks, horse riding, dune boarding, plus traditional songs, dances and recounting tales of the Bedouin way of life. Meals are included as well as soft drinks and traditional snacks such as halwa and dates.

WHEN TO GO

October to May is the ideal period to visit Oman, for glorious sunshine, negligible rainfall and tolerable heat. Peak season runs from November to February. From June-August it is extremely hot in the north, with refreshing monsoons in the south, greening the desert and cooling the ferocious midsummer heat to a manageable level. Note that during Ramadan many businesses will operate reduced opening times and eating in public is not allowed.
